We are grateful to resume our academic experiences and know that this week will bring new routines and updates all around. As we begin getting re-acquainted with one another, from our remote locations, please know that we see and value the extra efforts faculty are making to keep teaching and that our students are making to keep learning under circumstances none of us could have imagined at the beginning of the semester. On our first day of remote instruction, our Teaching & Learning with Technology Team reports that we hosted 970 Zoom meetings, and 4,430 users played 1,775 videos on media.ithaca.edu (Kaltura). (167 words) The staff trustee position on the Board of Trustees, currently held by Sybil Conrad, is up for re-election at the May 2020 board meeting for a four-year term beginning June 1, 2020. Applications are being accepted through Monday, March 30th at 11:59pm (extended deadline). Interested staff members should submit a letter of interest along with a resume to the Staff Council Executive Committee at staffcouncil@ithaca.edu. The Staff Council Executive Committee will select three individuals from this pool to be forwarded to the Board for their decision regarding the one position. At its May 2020 meeting the Board will elect the next Staff Trustee, whose four-year term will begin on June 1, 2020. Read more . . . By the time she was in her late twenties, Tara Schuster was a rising TV exec who had worked for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. By all appearances, she had mastered being a grown-up. But beneath that veneer of success, she was a "chronically anxious, self-medicating mess". No one knew that her road to adulthood had been paved with depression, anxiety, and shame.
When life surprises us with challenges like those we’re encountering around COVID-19, we might struggle to feel connected: to ourselves, to each other, to a sense of routine or stability. In times like these, having some tools to help us manage the discomfort or maybe even the grief that comes from uncertainty and the changing of plans is valuable.
The Fall Funding Process is SGC's way to counter the delay in funding at the beginning of the fall semester. Organizations are given the ability to submit budgets for the fall semester during this time to get funding for their programs, trips, and operational expenses for Block I.
