The Office of International Programs is now reviewing applications to the London Center for Spring 2015. The deadline for Spring 2015 applications is Friday, September 12, but we will review complete applications on a rolling basis as they come in. NOTE: we often have a large applicant pool for spring study in London, and it is possible we will not be able to accommodate all applicants.  Therefore, get your complete application submitted online as soon as possible!

Dr. Virginia Mansfield-Richardson, Associate Dean in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, has been invited to join the Editorial Board of the Newspaper Research Journal. 

Newspaper Research Journal is a refereed journal published quarterly by the Newspaper and Online News Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.  It focuses on topics of interest to journalism and mass communication students, scholars and media professionals. Newspaper Research Journal comprehensively answers questions about U.S. newspaper performance and related topics of interest. Significant themes of research range from balance and fairness to the use of computer analysis in newspaper reporting.
 

Stephen Tropiano, associate professor of screen studies, presented a paper entitled “‘Last Show of the Series”: TV Finales as Event Television” at the University Film & Video Association Conference at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.

In May, Dr. Tropiano received the Park Faculty Writing Award for his book Saturday Night Live FAQ: Everything Left to Know About Television’s Longest-Running Comedy (Applause Books, 2013).

A panel of Park School faculty whose professional expertise represent scholarly writing, journalism, and screen/scriptwriting reviewed the nominations and selected the winners.

Dr. Donathan Brown has contributed the sole chapter on American immigration reform in a larger volume titled 2012 U.S. Presidential Election: Challenges and Expectations. Published by Jagielloian University Press in Krakow, Poland, the project includes contributions from international scholars in political science, law, and American Studies.

On days that classes are in session there is a shuttle that provides transportation between Longview and the College during the morning, with stops at the Center for Health Sciences (by the building entrance that faces F Parking Lot) and Textor (by the flag pole traffic circle).  This shuttle is available to members of both the Longview and Ithaca College Communities.  The shuttle schedule is posted on the Gerontology Institute web site (https://www.ithaca.edu/aging/longview/).

Please join me on Thursday, September 4th for the first Faculty Colloquium of the academic year.  

Dr. Sandra Steingraber, Distinguished Scholar in Residence in the Department of Environmental Studies and Science in the School of Humanities and Sciences, Steingraber has dedicated her career to exploring the links between public health and the environment with a special focus on chemical contamination and climate change. Dr. Steingraber will be presenting “Neutrality Advocacy, and Morality in a Time of Climate Emergency: The Role of Science in the Climate Change Movement.” This talk will including research findings from her new book in progress, as well dispatches from Steingraber’s ongoing work as a science advisor to Americans Against Fracking, co-founder of Concerned Health Professionals of New York, and recruiter for the People’s Climate March in New York City on September 21.
