After serving for nearly three decades in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life at Ithaca College, vice president Brian McAree has announced that for health reasons he will be retiring on August 23. In a message to the staff of the division, McAree noted that in consultation with his doctors, he determined that it is in his best long-term interests to step away from his role at the college at this time.

Fitness Center - Group Exercise

Hello Group Exercise Participants!

Just a reminder that with the exception of Aqua Zumba this Friday is the last day of our Summer group exercise schedule.  We will be offering Aqua Zumba next Tuesday (8/14) and Thursday (8/16) at the regular time.  Please check the Recreational Sports website and Fitness Center Facebook page over the next two weeks as we will be posting our Fall group exercise schedule very shortly.  Thanks!

The last Friday for Summer Hours will be August 10, 2012.  If you have "banked hours" - with the approval of your supervisor - you are asked to make every effort to use these hours during the remaining summer period, if possible.  All banked hours will be forfeited if not used by October 26, 2012. This date will adjust each year.

Thank you.

The Fitness Center will have reduced hours for the remainder of the Summer. Beginning on Saturday 8/11 our hours will be as follows:

Monday - Thursday: 11:00am-2:00pm, 5:00pm-7:00pm

Friday: 11:00am-2:00pm

Saturday & Sunday: CLOSED

We will resume our regular academic year hours on Saturday 8/25.

We are currently holding all packages that arrive.  If you are in our system on August 6th as living on campus for the Fall 2012 semester or if you are currently a “hold at Phillips Hall” summer student, you will receive an email notifying you that a package has arrived and where to pick it up. It is important that you read the body of the email. During this time in the semester we keep small and large packages at the Mail Center. Last year during the first 6 weeks of the semester we received over 18,500 packages for students.

Susan Monagan, Manager of Audience Development in the Department of Theatre Arts, traveled to the University of Birmingham, England in May to participate in an international research symposium “Creative practice, complexity and the creative economy”. Monagan presented her paper “Reflecting on Creative Economy Pedagogy” at the conference that focused on the connection between complexity theory and the creative economy. She received funding for her travel from the IC staff development fund.

The season opens in October with Man from Nebraska from Tracy Letts, author of August: Osage County. Letts brings us the story of Ken Carpenter, a middle-aged man from the middle of America who discovers he's lost his faith. Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Man from Nebraska follows Ken on a journey away from home where he examines his faith and how people choose what they believe.

London -- Meghan Musnicki, a 2005 Ithaca College graduate and member of the United States Olympic rowing team, won a gold medal Thursday morning with the women's 8. The U.S. won its second straight gold medal, leading the race from the start and beating Canada by a half length.
