John Confer (Biology/Env. Studies, retired) is first author with P. Hartman and A. Roth of a monograph on the Golden-winged Warbler for the Birds of North America series. By some estimates, the golden-wing has been declining exponentially at 10.3% per year, the highest rate for all birds of eastern United States. The report was recently released digitally by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and can be accessed through the Ithaca College library at  http://bna.birds.cornell.edu/bna/species/020doi:10.2173/bna.20

IC Kicks Back

We would like to invite you to our traditional celebration for the last Friday of classes – IC Kicks Back. As always, this will be a fun and relaxing experience where you and your friends can create great memories. Besides the free food, a concert presented by the Bureau of Concerts, and inflatable games, you can expect a variety of entertaining activities courtesy of several IC student organizations.  IC Kicks Back will be held on Friday, May 6th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Quad. Look for advertisements about the event. Don’t miss out on this fabulous tradition!

Ithaca College has announced that its campus dining services provider, Sodexo, will increase wages for hourly employees with the start of the 2011–12 school year, so that all workers will receive at least the locally calculated “living wage.”

Students from the Park School's Ad Lab Class will present their advertising campaign Tuesday, May 3 at 12:05 p.m. in the Park Hall Auditorium.

Each year, students in the senior capstone course spend a semester researching and developing a campaign for American Advertising Federation's (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition.

This concert is not to be missed!  Featuring a film presentation about a Women's Vocal Orchestra in a prison camp on Sumatra and their involvement with music, a film about the amazing story of the power of music sustaining the human spirit. 

Janet Galván, Professor of Music at Ithaca College and Artistic Director for the Ithaca Children's Choir, will conduct the concert, which will also feature music of Rautavaara, Ralph Vaughn Williams and William Schuman.

Planned Parenthood has awarded its 2011 APPLE (Affiliate Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education) Awards for outstanding contributions to the field of sex education. A press release announcing the awards from Planned Parenthood Federation of America states "This year’s top award went to Lis Maurer, program director for the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Education, Outreach and Services at Ithaca College. Maurer took home the prestigious Mary Lee Tatum Award for best exemplifying the qualities of an ideal sexuality educator.   Her outstanding work on sexual orientation, gender identity, disability issues, and HIV/AIDS has made her a go-to source for questions on sexuality. Under Maurer’s leadership, Ithaca College was named one of the 100 best campuses in the nation for LGBT students. Maurer — who previously worked at Planned Parenthood of Delaware — is the founding director of the center."

Friday, April 29th is our 3rd annual Student Athlete Appreciation Day! The event will start at 5:30 pm and will be located on the lower football practice fields! There will be free food, tons of prizes, the bungee run inflatable, and a dunking booth!!! Take a chance at dunking Associate Athletic Director Mike Lindberg!
