Join students from three classes (Food and Society, History of Environmental Thought, and the Archaeology of Food) on December 1, 6-7:30 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge, for an interactive educational display of their interdisciplinary research on foods. The Real Foods Event is the culmination of a collaborative project done with support from the IC2 program to create a dialog from prehistoric, historic, and contemporary approaches to the study of food and food systems.

Naeem Inayatullah, Associate Professor of Politics, has just published an edited volume, Autobiographical International Relations: I, IR (Routledge).

It includes essays by two IC alums: Sara-Maria Sorentino (2008) and Nethra Samarawickrema (2008).

This pathbreaking volume provides a novel approach to international relations. In the course of fifteen essays, scholars write about how life events brought them to their subject matter. They place their narratives in the larger context of world politics, culture, and history.

Please join the IC International Club in welcoming Kiran Nagarkar, a Fulbright Visiting Scholar, for a reading of excerpts from his important texts on Tuesday, November 30th at 5:30pm in Klingenstein Lounge. 

Kiran Nagarkar is an important novelist, playwright, critic, and screenwriter. Writing in both Marathi and English, he is widely considered to be one of the most significant writers in postcolonial India. His novels include Six Sevens are Forty Three, Ravan and Eddie, Cuckold, and God’s Little Soldier. In addition, he has published highly regarded plays, screenplays, and works of criticism, a number of which have been the focus of heated political controversies. Mr. Nagarkar has been awarded the subcontinent’s most prestigious literary prizes.

He will be reading several short excerpts from his novels, and let us assure you, he is fantastic to listen to! There will also be snacks served.

The Sustainability Café on Monday, December 6th will feature Wendy Cobrda, CEO of Earthsense, speaking about “A Darker Shade of Green.”  The Café will be held in the Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 from 4:00-5:00PM. This event is free and open to the public.

Jack Rossen presented a paper, "Circulations of the Cayuga World of Central New York, A.D. 900-1800" and chaired the session, "Archaeology of Circulations." He also received extra funding to visit mound sites of northeastern Louisiana like Poverty Point to enhance his archaeology courses.

Attend a Pathways training to learn crisis response skills before you need them!  Don't wait until it's too late to learn how to identify and respond to a student who might be experiencing distress.  Taught by staff of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Pathways will prepare you to confidently identify and respond to someone believed to be at risk for experiencing a crisis.

Join SAB at 8:00 on December 1st, 2010 for an Open Mic Night, featuring Brooklyn indie band Mon Khmer!

This semester's Open Mic Night allows performers to share the stage with the members of Mon Khmer. Many influences are at work in their music - swirling together into a mass of current trends and classic indie-rock tradition. They were recently called "another Brooklyn to watch out for" by L Magazine. Visit Mon Khmer's Myspace to listen to selections from their latest EP "Birthplace".
