Patricia Zimmermann delivered the invited keynote address at the “Saving Private Reels: On the Presentation, Appropriation and Recontexualization of the Amateur Moving Image” conference in Cork, Ireland, on September 19.

Her lecture, “The Home Movie Archive Live,” analyzed and theorized the intersections between archives, digitality, performance, live music, and critical historiography. “Saving Private Reels,” an international gathering of scholars, archivists, preservationists, and media artists, was cosponsored by the University College Cork and the Irish Film Archive. The conference is part of a wide-ranging, collaborative initiative to acquire, preserve, present, and analyze Irish amateur film as national heritage.

Zimmermann is professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival at Ithaca College.

On Monday Sept 27, Ann Michel will talk about using video to forward an environmental agenda. Ann and her partners have been working in professional independent video production since 1971 to tell compelling stories about people and science and people in science. They’ve worked on huge screens and tiny screens, done documentaries, broadcast and non-broadcast video, projection for theatrical productions, installations, DVDs, and websites.
