Cathy Crane, associate professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts, received a grant from New York State Council for the Arts (NYSCA) for the completion of her new film, "The Death Pasolini Foretold."

"The Death Pasolini Foretold" is a full-length experimental biography exploring the year leading up to the murder of Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. 

This project received previous support from Office of the Provost and a James B. Pendleton grant. Crane will work on the film during her sabbatical leave this year.

 Peter Melcher presented "The impact of xylem wounding on the measure of stem hydraulic resistance" at the Botany 2010 Conference in Providence, RI. August 2010.  Co-authored with Steven Warchocki  (Biology '09).

Abstract:

Plant performance is directly related to plant water status and because xylem hydraulic resistance impacts water supply to leaves it has been used to characterize plant adaptations to environment. Xylem tissue in plants contain both living and dead cells. The cells responsible for the mass flow of sap from roots to leaves are composed of numerous dead hollow conduits. Jeff Cohen, director of the Park Center for Independent Media and associate professor in the Department of Journalism, recently had two columns featured on the front page of the Huffington Post.

One column focused on WikiLeaks and the release of classified Afghan war documents, and the other focused on The Colbert Report and host Stephen Colbert’s interview with Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner about the U.S. prison population.

Jessica Brandt, a Television-Radio major, was one of five students nationwide to receive a $5,000 John Bayliss Broadcast Foundation Scholarship.

Bayliss scholarship recipients are chosen for their academic achievement, extracurricular radio activities, their passion for radio, and their desire to contribute to the overall advancement of the radio industry. 

Brandt recently won local radio station’s Z955's Wannabe a ZJ Contest, and is now working at the station full time. She is the co-host of the morning show and has her own show weekdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and on weekends from 3-7 p.m.

Brandt previously worked at both WICB and VIC. serving as a DJ for modern rock shows, City Rhythms (WICB’s hip hop program), as well as her own specialty Disney show.
