iChat comes on every new Mac and it's not just for text chatting anymore. iChat is a collaborative environment and web conferencing machine. Come to this session to see a demonstration on how to start a web chat, share your computer's desktop, and give presentations remotely. This session will have a quick demo with a chance for some hands-on experimentation.

Ithaca's men's and women's basketball programs will be participating in the College Discovery Program's 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Saturday April 10 at Cornell's Newman Arena. Proceeds from the event will benefit College Discovery Program, a long-term mentoring and academic support program designed to reduce achievement gaps in the Ithaca City School District and increase access to a college education for program participants.

April is LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) Awareness Month on college campuses.

Longview, a long term programmatic partner of Ithaca College, has just celebrated the completion of a new Special Care Building. This facility, which will initially open as an extension of Longview's  existing adult home, will offer additional opportunities for intergenerational course-related and volunteer activities.

Students from all majors are welcome to register for the mini-course, Media for Social Change. This course requires 12.5 hours of participation. It is designed to be an immersive learning experience. Students will gain a greater knowledge of companies in the media, communications and entertainment industries, emphasizing how content can communicate social responsibility and how to use the power of media for positive, personal and global transformation.

Notes on Liberty, a documentary directed by Professor John Scott and produced by Adjunct Professor Karen Rodriguez, was recently selected as one of thirty documentaries for the 2010 American Documentary Showcase. 

The Showcase is a program of independent documentaries funded by the US State Departments Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (BECA), and is offered to US Embassies for screening abroad with the hope of providing “a broad and diversified look at American life and the values of a democratic society as seen by American documentary filmmakers.”  The program is administered by the University Film and Video Association and funded in part by a grant from the United States Department of State.

Seniors Nick Santos and Heather Newberger had their film, “Kiddo,” selected to screen at the Boston International Film Festival and Indie Spirit Film Festival in April. Written by Santos, “Kiddo” is the story of a twelve-year-old boy who is dealing with the conflict between the innocence of childhood and the tribulations of growing up.

The Contemporary Chamber Ensemble will offer a free concert at 8:15 pm on Tuesday, April 6 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall.  Jeffery Meyer and Charis Dimaras will conduct, and faculty members Deborah Lifton, soprano, and Jennifer Hayghe, piano will be soloists.  The program includes "Two Postcards from Formosa," composed in 2007 by Ming-Hsiu Yen; "Cheating, Lying, Stealing" by David Lang; "Love Beyond Time, Beyond Place" by School of Music composer Dana Wilson, and the iconic "In C" by Terry Riley.

Actress and activist CCH Pounder has accepted an invitation to deliver the main address at Ithaca College’s Commencement ceremony on May 23, 2010. A 1975 graduate of the college, Pounder has numerous film, television and theater credits and is a co-founder of the nonprofit organization Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) and a board member of the African Millennium Foundation (AMF).

As you begin to plan for Commencement Week 2010, please keep in mind the following on-campus housing guidelines.

All campus residents except for graduating seniors, Resident Assistants, and Circle Apartment residents are required to vacate their rooms no later than 3:00 p.m. on May 15, 2010 unless they receive written approval from the Office of Residential Life to remain. Unapproved students who are found in the residence halls after that date and time are subject to a $100.00 unauthorized presence fine and judicial action.
