In addition, Sile has been selected as a winner of the 2010 Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition. The competition awards nine aspiring journalists a 10-day guided study tour of Japan, an area of special interest to Roy Howard.

Michael Serino, student media adviser in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, presented two sessions at the Spring National College Media Convention in New York City, March 13–16.

“Philosophy for Journalists: The Problem of Suffering” explored the application of virtue ethics to the role of the journalist, with particular reference to the encounter with, and representation of, human suffering.

“Multimedia: A New Form of Storytelling” examined the ways in which new media can be used not just as add-ons to traditional stories, but combined into a complex, nuanced storytelling vehicle.

Leigh Ann Vaughn, Associate Professor of Psychology, Audrey Harkness ('08), and Emily Clark ('08) have published an article titled, "The effect of incidental experiences of regulatory fit on trust," in this month's issue of Personal Relationships. The research showed that when people judge how much they trust an acquaintance, feeling right enhances trust. This occurs even when the activity that caused them to feel right had nothing to do with the person whose trustworthiness they are judging.
