Robert Holt, leader of the Office of Public Safety at Ithaca College, has announced that he will step down as director as of May 31, 2008. Over the course of the next year, Bob will continue to work with the officers of the department on special weapons and tactics training.

Bob identified this time to focus on the development and delivery of the important training that campus law enforcement requires, given the events of the past few years. Ithaca College will be fortunate to benefit from these efforts in the upcoming academic year.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, preliminary autopsy results indicate that Ithaca College freshman William Jacobson's death was due to an accidental drowning. While the full autopsy report is not yet complete, police have ruled out foul play as the cause of death.

Timothy Johnson, associate professor of music, will give a presentation at the 20th Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture, June 4-6. His talk, "I Never Get Back: An Analysis of Melodic Shape in 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game,' " will discuss aspects of musical structure in this popular baseball song, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The IC Kicks Back BBQ will take place Friday, May 2, on the Campus Center Quad from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Don't forget the reception for Townsend Plant, director of music admission programs since 2001, who will soon take on the position of director of admissions and financial aid for Indiana University's School of Music. Organized by assistant professor of composition Sally Lamb, School of Music composers have been participating in a “Composer in the Schools” program at Dryden Elementary Schools. Two separate projects are currently underway.
