Attention all interested faculty and staff:

The IC coordinating team for the Ithaca College-EcoVillage at Ithaca Partnership for Sustainability Education is soliciting applications for curriculum development initiatives in the area of sustainability, including the "people" element of the "people/planet/prosperity" intersection. The $1,000 curriculum development mini-grants will support work conducted during summer and fall 2008. A maximum of five mini-grants will be awarded.

Physics professor Luke Keller has been awarded a $25,000 NASA contract to use data from the Spitzer Space Telescope in an ongoing study of solar system formation around distant stars.

Over the next two years, Professor Keller and his students will use spectra from the infrared space telescope to study the light emitted from dust and complex organic molecules that orbit very young stars. They will use the emissions to determine how this dust and gas changes with time and also how the properties of the star affect the orbiting material.

The Life and Legacy of Rod Serling, a two-day conference sponsored by the Park School of Communications, will be held March 28 and 29.

While registrations are now being accepted for the two-day event -- which features presentations of academic papers, panel discussions, screenings, and a scriptwriting competition -- there will also be four events free and open to the campus community (first-come, first-served).

After three years of planning and preparations, the Middle States reaccreditation visit is now complete, and I write to say a heartfelt thank-you to the entire community for your participation. The team members constantly spoke of how welcomed they felt, and that their interactions with students, faculty, and staff were open, honest, and genuine.

Last week I sent an Intercom message to the campus community with the schedule of presidential candidate visits and indicating that the Presidential Search Committee would be sharing the names of the finalists in the very near future.

I had hoped that I would be able to provide the names prior to students and faculty departing this Friday for the much needed spring break. However, due to scheduling considerations for the candidates, the first announcement will not be able to be made until next week. I realize that this may not be optimal for those of you who will be traveling over the break period. However, I am doing my best to accommodate the needs of our finalists and to ensure a successful visit for each candidate.
