Award-winning essayist and novelist Scott Russell Sanders will give two public presentations at Ithaca College as part of the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series, hosted by the Department of Writing. Sanders will deliver a lecture, titled "Honoring the Ordinary," on Tuesday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge, Egbert Hall. On Thursday, September 27, he will give a reading from his works at 7:30 p.m. in Clark Lounge, Egbert Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.

A project headed by physics department chair Bruce Thompson and Peter Wrege, senior research associate at Cornell's Laboratory of Ornithology, to monitor elephant behavior in response to seismic exploration activities using a combined acoustic and seismic method was funded in December 2006. Professor Thompson and IC student Nik Batruch '08 traveled with Wrege to Gabon in March 2007 and installed listening units at ten sites.
