Please save the date for the first-ever Faculty and Staff Campaign Kick-Off. The event will be held on February 27th in Emerson Suites from 11:30am to 1:30pm, with a formal ceremony beginning at 12noon. Our Weight Watchers At Work meetings have been suspended 11 weeks into the 16-week session. Our leader, due to a job change, had to drop out, effective the first of the new year. We wish her the very best in her new position.

However, because of a serious lack of available leaders in the Ithaca area—in addition to meeting during the noon hour, which is difficult for those with full-time jobs—we are forced to suspend Weight Watchers At Work meetings until a new leader can be found.

The following classes are now available for you to sign up for at the Fitness Center. These classes are taught by professional instructors.

All of these classes are for 10 weeks excluding Massage (6 weeks.) Flyers are available at the Fitness Center if you haven't decided what class you're interested in. You can sign up and pay at the front desk. The recsports website is not available with the current schedules.

On Wednesday, January 31st, from 8:30a.m. - 5:00p.m. in the Clark Lounge, the "Sustainability in the Community" academic partnership between Ithaca College and EcoVillage will offer a sustainability education training program. Jaimie Cloud, of the internationally-recognized Cloud Institute for Sustainability Education, will conduct a hands-on, interactive workshop to help IC faculty teach the core content and habits of mind of an education for sustainability across the disciplines.

Summer Grants for Faculty Research are intended to support post-terminal degree scholarly endeavors for full-time continuing Ithaca College faculty and faculty regularly employed on at least a half-time basis. Awards provide $3,350 in compensation for eight weeks of full-time research. Proposals are due in the Office of the Provost by February 15. The Bookstore and Mac's will close at 10:30 AM on January 11th for staff development. We will resume normal winter break hours on Friday, January 12th, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

All-College Staff Meeting

President Williams invites staff and administrators to an all-college meeting on Friday, January 12 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the Emerson Suites. In addition to brief updates on key topics, Karen Hutcheson from Segal/Sibson will present an update on her work with various aspects of our initiative regarding quality of work life for staff and administrators.

I wish to announce that Peter Bardaglio has informed me that he will be resigning as provost and vice president for academic affairs as of May 31, 2007. He will be on sabbatical for the spring semester, during which he plans to complete his book-length manuscript on the politics of daily life in the U.S. South after the Civil War as well as continue research on another project regarding sexuality and the law in the 19th-century South. He will not be returning to the College following his sabbatical.

The Tompkins County Legislature has appointed Paul Hamill, director of academic funding and sponsored programs, as the Tompkins County poet laureate for 2007. This is a great honor for Paul, whose published works include long poems, multipage narratives, meditations, monologues, a collection ("The Year of Blue Snow"), and three chapbooks: "Sainte Ariadne," "Last Things at Night," and "Winter Mind").
