Stephen Sweet (sociology), Andrew Hostetler (University of Massachusetts-Lowell), and Phyllis Moen (University of Minnesota), have had their article "Gendered Career Paths: A Life Course Perspective on Returning to School" accepted for publication in the journal Sex Roles.

Professor Heinz Koch is co-author on a paper with Prof. Masaaki Mishima of Kyushu University, Japan; "Stability of Complexes of Phenylacetylides and Benzyl Alkoxides with Methanol in the Gas Phase. Acid-Base Correlation i the Ionic Hydrogen-Bond Strength. Bulletin of The Chemical Society of Japan, volume 79, No. 7 page 1118-1125 (2006).

Dr. Asma Barlas

In June, Director of CSCRE, Asma Barlas, was invited by the Dutch Muslim Broadcasting Network (NMO) to participate in its television show, Meetingpoint. The program features different Muslim "personalities" debating with young Muslims in Holland. The subject of the June show was Barlas' work, "Believing Women" in Islam and it was recorded on the 25th in Hilversum, Holland.

Climbing Trip to Little Falls

Recreational Sports is planning another trip to Little Falls, NY:

  • Thursday, July 20
  • $30 / person
  • Pack a lunch
  • Vans will be departing the Fitness Center at 8:00 a.m. and returning approximately at 4:30 p.m. Cost includes round trip transportation and climbing gear. Sign up at the Fitness Center front desk. Payment is due Tuesday, July 18.

    Campus Center Dining Hall will be open for:

    Breakfast 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
    Lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    Dinner 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

    All other Dining Services locations will be closed for the Fourth of July.

    Faculty and students in the Summer Piano Institute will present a series of free concerts, starting with IC faculty pianist Jennifer Hayghe at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Her program will include three Scarlatti sonatas, selected "Lyric Pieces" by Grieg, and Moussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition."

    Please note on your calendar that the prep session for discussion leaders is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, from 10:00 a.m. to noon in Textor 102. Barbara Adams (writing), Marina Caillaud (biology), Jason Freitag (history), and David Saiia (business) will offer perspectives on the text that will prove helpful to your own discussions with incoming students on Tuesday, August 29, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (note the time).

    Mac's General Store Closed July 5

    Mac's General Store will be closed all day Wednesday, July 5, 2006 for power modifications. Mac's will reopen on Thursday, July 6, at 8:30 a.m. for normal operating hours.
