One of the most influential conservative commentators in the country will give a defense of the war on terror in a talk at Ithaca College. Rich Lowry, editor of "National Review," will speak on Tuesday, April 25, at 8:00 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. Titled "The Benign Superpower: In Defense of the President's Bush's War on Terror," his talk is free and open to the public.

While studying English and history at the University of Virginia, Lowry edited a conservative monthly magazine called the "Virginia Advocate." He graduated in 1990 and went on to work as a research assistant for commentator and columnist Charles Krauthammer and as a reporter for a local paper in Northern Virginia. In 1992 he joined "National Review," a magazine founded in 1955 by William F. Buckley that has played a decisive role in shaping the conservative movement in the United States. Lowry served as articles editor before moving to Washington in the summer of 1994 to cover Congress, and in 1997 he was named the magazine's editor.

Can a story change the world? Find out on Tuesday, April 25, at 8:00 p.m. in Textor 101. "Invisible Children" tells the story of three young Americans who undertook a film-making adventure in Africa, but whose experience transformed into much more, when they found themselves stranded in Northern Uganda. They discovered children being kidnapped nightly from their homes and subsequently forced to fight as child soldiers. This film is dedicated to exposing this tragic and - amazingly - largely untold story.

"Successful Tenure and Promotion at Ithaca College," a program featuring remarks by the Provost and panels of recent candidates and all-college committee members, takes place on Wednesday April 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Textor 103.

"Good Practice in Tenure Evaluations" is a set of two workshops on Tuesday, May 16. Based on a major report by the American Council on Education, the American Association of University Professors, and United Educators Insurance Risk Retention Group, the workshops are open to any faculty member or academic administrator.

Are you currently or will you be 21 years old by the end of August? Two student drivers are needed for next semester. Applicants must be available from 11:00AM until at least 1PM Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday or Tuesday/ Thursday, and Saturday from 10AM until 1PM. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, take a 2 hour College driver safety course and be able to do heavy lifting. This position delivers student mail to mail rooms and packages to the Phillips Hall Post Office.
Applications are available at the Phillips Hall Post Office and the Mail Center.

The Ad Lab team will give a public presentation at Ithaca College on Thursday, April 27 at 12:10 p.m. in Park Auditorium.

The students have worked throughout the spring semester on a 20-minute pitch for the American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising Competition. The IC team will compete at the district level on May 5 in New York City. The winner will move on to the national competition.

The 2006 IC team has named their agency MercuryMark and will try to secure this year's client, Postal Vault.

The Faculty Development Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2005-06 Faculty Excellence Awards.

After a two-year long journey, assistant professor Changhee Chun's documentary on Asians and
Asian Americans in Tompkins County is complete. The piece, Spilled (Soy) Milk, will screen at Fall Creek Theater on Monday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
