Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist and author Chris Hedges will deliver a presentation entitled “War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning,” based upon his book of the same name, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 in Emerson A and B. War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning received the 2003 Overseas Press Club award and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction. The Los Angeles Times called it, "A powerful message to people contemplating the escalation of the 'war against terrorism.'"

Guest artist Jason D. Ham will present a free euphonium recital at Ithaca College on Monday, January 23. Featuring an instrument rarely heard in solo performances, the recital will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. With Hanako Yamagata collaborating on piano, the program will include a classical sonata by Marcello, along with more recent works by Reeman, Ellerby, and others.

A favorite of local audiences, jazz singer Rhiannon will return to Ithaca College for a free concert on Sunday, January 22. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Collaborating musicians will be pianist John White, bassist Nicholas Walker, and drummer Steve Curry.

The School of Music's annual Concerto Competition is open to the public on Sunday, January 22 starting at 1:00 p.m. The free event will take place in Ford Hall. Students will compete to perform a solo with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra during its February 25th concert.
