Below is a summary of results from the Student Campus Climate survey. Conducted in the spring of 2004, the objectives of the survey were to determine students’ general experiences at Ithaca College, attitudes and beliefs about diversity and multiculturalism, and experiences related to diversity at Ithaca College.

The Presidential Task Force on Diversity will consider the results of the survey as they continue to work on their final report to the President.

Members of the Ithaca College community:

I was outraged and deeply saddened when I heard that acts of bias have once again taken place on our campus. This past weekend, explicit and angry racist graffiti were found written in several locations around the Towers Concourse and the rainbow flag symbolizing gay pride was stolen from the “free speech” flagpole.

Important Auction Time Changes

The Office of the Bursar joins President Peggy Williams in being deeply saddened by the recent acts of bias on our campus. In order to make it possible for our staff and other community members to attend both our live auction and the Erase the Hate rally, we have made the following changes in our auction times:

Silent auction will run 10:00 am to noon
Live auction will run 1:00-2:00 pm

Erase the Hate Rally

An Erase the Hate Rally and March will take place at the Free Speech Rock on Thursday, April 14, 2005, at noon, to respond to the continuing acts of prejudice on campus.

On Sunday, April 10, 2005, a West Tower resident witnessed a bias-related incident.

Observatory Public Night

The Clinton B. Ford Observatory will be open to the public this Friday, April 15, 8:30 to 11:30 pm. To attend the public night, just show up in front of Textor Hall by the flagpole. A shuttle van will make regular runs to convey people from the flagpole up to the observatory and back down.

Senior Week Golf Tournament

Summer Reading Group Announced

David Marcus, scholar in residence in the Journalism department, will give a presentation titled, “Covering Teens and Tweens: A Reporter’s Journey into American Adolescence” on Wednesday, April 13, 4:00-5:30 p.m. in Park 220.

Marcus, a Pulitzer Prize-winner, will discuss the four years of camping, hiking, teaching, and observing group therapy that led to his widely-praised nonfiction book, What It Takes to Pull Me Through: Why Teenagers Get in Trouble and How Four of Them Got Out. He’ll show a short video and he’ll talk about innovative ways for print journalists and broadcasters to tell stories of children and teenagers.

Andrew Goldfrach ('05, health policy studies) has been awarded the American College of Healthcare Executives Student Leadership Award.

In a ceremony held during a class on Professional Leadership in Health (662-44400), a senior health policy studies student was awarded the Upstate New York Student Leadership in Health Award by the ACHE regent Nick Fabrizio. This is the second consecutive year that an Ithaca College student has won this award.
