 Dr. Evis Sammoutis, Assistant Professor, Music Composition, has been awarded Second Prize at the inaugural Leo Brouwer International Composition Competition, for his work Alter Ego I for solo guitar. This is the second distinction for Alter Ego I, as the work was also awarded First Prize at the Andrés Segovia International Composers Competition in Spain a few years back.

Tune in to VIC Radio Friday, April 5th through Sunday, April 7th for the station's 33rd annual 50 Hour Marathon. Four senior DJs will stay awake for fifty straight hours playing their favorite music, interviewing guests and hosting in-studio local music acts in an effort to raise money for this year's non-profit beneficiary, the Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service of Tompkins County.

Support for VIC Radio's 50 Hour Marathon and donations to the Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service can be made by visiting the station's GoFundMe page. Half-hour and full hour sponsorships cost $25 and $40 respectively.

Plowbreak Farm, owned and operated by Kara Cusolito '08 and Aaron Munzer '08, will again be offering locally grown vegetable CSA shares to the Ithaca College community, with a convenient pick-up site at the Peggy R. Williams Center on Wednesdays, and a downtown pickup on Thursdays at the Westy, a local beer garden. The farm is located in Hector, about twenty miles from the college, and grows six acres of produce in fields and greenhouses that overlook Seneca Lake.

Hi, my name is Sue-Je Gage, Associate Professor at Ithaca College. I am recruiting faculty members without supervisory roles from across campus to participate in a study on how conflicts are addressed and resolved on campus. The goal of this study is to create a conflict resolution map for our campus to better help our campus community members understand where they can go to address conflicts. The study involves conducting focus group interviews of about 6-10 members for each of the three constituent groups: faculty, staff and students. Focus groups with staff and students will be held at different sessions. Please email me with your interest in attending this session.

Veteran environmentalist and original petitioner and leader of the Green Amendment movement, Maya van Rossum will be holding a lecture and discussion at an Environmental Law and Policy Class at Ithaca College, discussing her new book, The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment, followed by Q&A and signing. Come out and meet Maya, pick up a copy of the book, and learn about the future of environmental advocacy!

The Latin American Studies minor program at Ithaca College congratulates Dr. Jennifer Jolly for her recent Best Book Award at the Middle Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies (MACLAS) Annual Conference at Stony Brook University (March 8-9th). The Arthur P. Whitaker Prize is awarded each year for the best book published in the previous two years by a MACLAS member in good standing for the past two years.

The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen series at Ithaca College will show the documentary “Woman on Fire” on Tuesday, March 19, at 6 p.m. in Textor 103. The screening is free and open to the public.

The film tells the story of Brooke Guinan, the first openly transgender firefighter in New York City. A third- generation firefighter, Brooke has a passion for heroism that runs in her blood. When she transitions, it poses a challenge to a macho profession and to her family. Brooke and her boyfriend, an Air Force veteran, realize that having the life they want means being vulnerable in the face of judgment. “Woman on Fire” is a heartfelt portrait of change in the American family and workplace, and a testament to love, courage and loyalty.
