Ithaca College Students of Color have called on White-Identifying students, faculty, and staff to do the internal work necessary to be anti-racist. These ongoing workspaces are designed for White-identifying students to understand the many layers of systemic racism in order to dismantle them, and to understand their role in this anti-racist work.

Established through contributions from staff, faculty, and friends of James J. Whalen, Ithaca College’s 6th president, in honor of his 22 years of service to the College.

This award is granted to eligible staff members in a degree program at Ithaca College. The money can be used to pay for books and defray other educational costs. Candidates for the J.J. Staff Scholar Award must be full-time staff members of the College; matriculated in a degree program; have completed at least 60 credit hours toward an undergraduate degree, or pursuing a graduate-level degree, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Justine Vosloo, PhD. CMPC, Associate Professor from the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training published a paper: “Culturally Competent Sport Psychology: A Survey of Sport Psychology Professionals’ Perception of Cultural Competence” in one of the premier journals in the field: The Sport Psychologist. The paper examined the perceived cultural competency levels of professionals in the field of sport psychology (i.e. Certified Mental Performance Coaches/CMPCs & Sport Psychologists). The paper examined the professionals’ perceived cultural knowledge, competency and beliefs around the effectiveness of formal training in the development of their own cultural competence. A major finding was that professionals believed that their training was only moderately effective in their cultural competence development.
