The Ithaca College Gerontology Institute hosted Dr. Richard Payne, MD, as our 2017 Distinguished Speaker. Dr. Payne is a neurologist and palliative medicine physician.  Since 2004, he has been on the faculty of Duke University, and is the Esther Colliflower Professor of Medicine and Divinity.  He also has a part time appointment at the Center for Practical Bioethics in Kansas City, Missouri where he is the John B. Francis Chair in Bioethics.

Junior Athletic Training Major, Katelyn Dolan ('19, Brewster NY) was recently appointed by Director of District 2 of the National Athletic Trainers' Association to be their representative to the NATA Student Leadership Committee. Katelyn was chosen for her established leadership abilities and accomplishments and for her potential to emerge as a dynamic and effective leader in the profession upon matriculation from her degree program. She will officially begin her term on the NATA SLC this coming June by attending the NATA Annual Conference & Symposium in New Orleans, which will be funded by District 2 of the NATA.

In Detroit, students will work CASS Community Social Services, an organization that is dedicated to dedicated to providing food, housing, health services, and job programs in the Detroit area.

Summer Service trips are a part of the Alternative Breaks program, which offers students the opportunity to engage in week-long, service immersion experiences that offer personal growth and a chance to make positive impact in the lives of others.

Ithaca Dining Services has launched a new pre-order service with GET. GET Food lets students and staff to pre-order food, snacks, drinks and Starbucks Coffee from Sandella’s Café. Order ahead for convenience and GET food when you get there!  After order completion, the app will tell you when your order will be ready for pickup.

 “A Senseless Tragedy” by former Ithacan editor-in-chief Kayla Dwyer ’17 has been awarded Second Place for News Writing nationally in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Circle Award competition for 2017. 

The story, which appeared in the Sept. 1, 2016, issue of The Ithacan, reported on the murder of, and remembrance ceremony for, Ithaca College student Anthony Nazaire, who was killed during a fight on the Cornell University campus Aug. 28, 2016.
