(484 words) Monday, February 8 - Inclusion, Cultural Fluency & Global Citizenship: mid-year gathering and learning community updateContributed by Rachel Gould on 02/07/16 Last September, the Symposium on Inclusion, Cultural Fluency, Global Citizenship launched a year-long series of conversations about helping the College to better prepare its students, faculty, and staff for an increasingly diverse socio-economic environment. Discussions have focused on how we can become more inclusive in all areas, more supportive of cultural fluency among our students and employees, and more focused on preparing our students for the “responsibilities of citizenship and service in the global community”. Following the September Symposium, several Learning Communities formed around these topics, and have been meeting since. On Monday, February 8, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., in the Clark Lounge, we will be holding a mid-year gathering of those who participated in the Inclusion, Cultural Fluency & Global Citizenship Learning Communities, as well as those who did not have the opportunity to do so but are interested in becoming a part of these conversations. (431 words) The Shared Governance Task Force Needs Your InputContributed by Doreen Hettich-Atkins on 02/06/16 The Ithaca College Board of Trustees charged Provost Rifkin to convene a task force to review and suggest changes to the structure of shared governance at Ithaca College. In its resolution, the Board of Trustees asked that the task force consist of students, faculty, and staff. The task force met for the first time on Thursday, January 28. The Task Force has decided that, in an effort to truly make this an inclusive process, we want and need the input from all members of the Ithaca College community. The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival Fellows program brings outstanding doctoral students of color from all disciplines to Ithaca College during the festival to participate in screenings, lectures, and workshops within an engaging, interdisciplinary, think tank environment.
Become a FLEFF Junior Fellow and experience the 19th Edition of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival from the inside in this special mini course. This one credit mini-course provides a guided experience through all facets of this multi-disciplinary festival.
The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival will host its kick-off event with a one-time only screening of the internationally acclaimed hit feature narrative film SHAH (Pakistan, 2015). The screening is Sunday February 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Cinemapolis.
All faculty are invited to an informal gathering of folks on campus interested in SoTL. This gathering (and future ones) will be called eponomously—SoTL in a Bottle—as we share ideas and drinks at The Argos Inn during happy hour (4:30PM - 5:30PM). In addition to convivial hilarity, we will share our SotL ideas, projects, woes, stumbling blocks, and successes. The idea is to bring awareness and foster connections in our growing community of scholarly teachers and SoTL researchers. The next SOTL in a Bottle will be Friday, February 12, 4:30-5:30PM at the Argos Inn.
