The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) held its 2015 North East Regional Conference in Teaneck, NJ from Thursday, October 1, 2015 to Sunday, October 4, 2015. APCA is dedicated to providing leadership training and programming opportunities to students and staff from colleges around the country. Natalie Reed was chosen from a field of candidates to serve as an Intern to the Director of Education and Associate Services at the APCA Conference.

The conference is an opportunity for learning to complement the classroom experience. There are educational sessions addressing such topics as motivation, stress management, communication skills, decision making, ethical leadership and group processing techniques.

The APCA North East Regional Conference is a valuable educational experience for all students who attend. Many of the students return with new perspectives and more definite future goals.

 Ithaca College men's crew will host a learn-to-row session this Saturday morning, 10/10, at 9:30am at the Tallman Rowing Center.  All beginners, first-timers, curious fun-seekers, and adventurers are invited.  You will have an opportunity to observe, learn, and maybe join a unique physical training program.  At the very least, you'll get a boat ride!

As part of Ithaca College’s commitment to undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity, support will be provided for approximately 40 student scholars at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) to be held April 7-9, 2016 at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Transportation, hotel accommodations and registration for the conference will be paid by the College. Students presenting at NCUR are expected to pay only for personal purchases.

Who can apply? Any undergraduate student in any program can apply to present their work. Virtually every discipline is represented at NCUR. Students can also present work that is created in an interdisciplinary posture. Please note, however, that support can typically only be given to one student for work that was prepared with multiple authors. Creative activity, such as musical or theatrical performance, or other work in the fine arts, is also welcome.

Please join the Roy H. Park School of Communications in offering a fond farewell to Associate Dean Virginia Mansfield-Richardson at a reception on Wednesday, October 14 from 4-6 p.m. in Park Hall, Room 223.

As announced earlier this month, Mansfield-Richardson has been appointed associate provost at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Virginia’s last day at Ithaca College will be October 16.

A huge kudos goes out to PODER this week for ALL of the events they have sponsored for Latina/o Heritage Month so far!  Award-winning poet Carlos Andres Gomez kicked off the month on September 16 followed by Kat Lazo, a Latina feminist, on September 21.  This past Monday, there was a Bachata Workshop held in the ALS Room in West Tower where attendees learned traditional Bachata moves led by specialized Bachata dance instructors.  Great job with these events

Kudos to Students Today Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) for working with the IC Alumni Association to put on a fabulous series of Alumni Weekend events this past weekend!  Events included a class reunion party, the Homecoming game vs. Alfred, the athletic hall of fame induction ceremony, a picnic on Saturday, and a special dinner featuring the 2015 alumni award winners.  Thanks for bringing so many alumni back to campus to celebrate!

This past Saturday, the Ithaca College Chapter of the American Advertising Federation held their 12th biannual Creative Crunch competition.  Teams of 2-4 students had just 2 hours to design 2 print ads and a 3rd ad of their choice for a mystery brand.  All students who participated gained valuable skills in advertising and communications as well as some great alumni networking opportunities. In fact, the judges of the competition were some of our own IC alumni!

Stop Wasting Ithaca's Food Today, also known as SWIFT, is one of the hidden gems of Ithaca College's student organizations. SWIFT ensures that IC dining halls' excess food does not go unused. Every Friday at 4PM, SWIFT members congregate in Towers Dining Hall to take leftover food and save it for future use. The student organization's adviser, Towers Dining Hall service manager Brandon Innerst, takes an active role in the organization by helping students with packaging and storage materials. Every week, SWIFT ends up distributing anywhere between 20-60 meals by bringing them to Rescue Mission in the Ithaca Commons.

Erika Bucior (ENVS '16) and Stephanie McCulloch (ENVS '16) are the recipients of the ENVS Professional Development awards intended to develop skills, provide professional development experiences, and participate in research projects to help further their post-college careers.   

Erika will travel to Puerto Rico to study the competition between two species of the Scaevola plant, one native and one invasive.  Stephanie will travel to Belize on an immersion course to learn about the Belizean ecology and culture.
