Ithaca is well known for the beauty of its gorges—a main attraction in the region and a must see for members of our campus community. Perhaps less known is the potential for danger and the fact that it is illegal to swim in these gorges. Over the past two decades, there have been over 25 accidental deaths and numerous serious injuries suffered by people swimming and jumping into the gorges.

Faculty are encouraged to review new guidelines pertaining to requesting internal funding from the provost’s office.   

Significant changes include new applications and fixed deadlines for the Academic  Challenge and Mini-Grant funding.  

The new deadlines are as follows:

• Fall Selection Process:  November 1st Deadline (for grants whose funds must be used between December 1 and May 31).
• Spring Selection Process:  May 1st Deadline (for grants whose funds must be used between June 1 and November 30).

The Study Abroad Ice Cream Social  is coming up next week!  This event features a panel of IC study abroad alumni who studied in countries across the globe.  They will be there to tell you about their international experiences, provide advice, and answer questions, all while you enjoy unlimited make-your-own sundaes!  The Social will be held Tuesday, September 22, 6:00-7:00, in the Clark Lounge, Campus Center.

As a follow-up to comments made by Nancy Pringle at the All College Meeting on Thursday, August 20th, we are asking all staff employees to complete an Individual Development Plan in consultation with their supervisor.  The original deadline of September 30th has been extended to October 30th.  

An Individual Development Plan (IDP) is an organized approach to professional development.  IDPs have long been used as a tool to help employees develop their skills and achieve their goals.
