Important Reminder for Faculty: Ithaca College Institutional Biosafety Protocols Must be received by Monday, August 31, 2015Contributed by MaryAnn Taylor on 08/27/15 Contributed by Wade Pickren, PhD All faculty planning to conduct research or classroom activity involving recombinant DNA or any potentially bio-hazardous material, including pathogens, biological toxins, or human cells, tissues, organs or fluids must obtain prior approval from the Institutional Biosafety Committee before undertaking that activity. This committee provides federally-mandated oversight of activities that present risk of infection or illness in humans. Federal guidelines require that applicants possess prior experience with a particular agent or procedure, and those supervising the activity should be familiar with proper safety precautions, procedures involving storage, and disposal. This resource book fosters speaking skills in which each participant in a given situation presents a different point of view. This technique forces them to respond as that person. ¡Improvisaciones! holds students responsible for higher learning skills in addition to developing new vocabulary and grammatical structures. Each improvisation has a Reflection (writing component) that invites students to make a personal connection to the activity. Other titles by Twomey include Un-Classic Fairy Tales in Spanish with a Twist, Aesop’s Fables in Spanish With a Twist, Hablemos: 25 Dialogues in Spanish, Escribamos, Reflexiones and forthcoming in 2016, Greek Myths in Spanish With a Twist. The new book, "Voting Rights Under Fire: The Continuing Struggle for People of Color," is published by Praeger (2015) as part of their well known series, "Racism in American Institutions." Written as a political and legal analysis of the rise of voter identification laws in correlation with shifting racial demographics, this book engages many debates surrounding the right to vote. We are especially pleased to add that one of Brown's advisee, Holly Athas, was awarded an Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award to work alongside her advisor. Holly provided excellent research and editing skills, and her name appears in the acknowledgment section of the book.
