Open Call for Volunteers: Ithaca College is looking for volunteers on May 8th to have a presence in the community and provide support to students on a day that in the past has typically involved mass gatherings, most commonly known as Kendall Day. Volunteer's will be stationed at different locations around Pennsylvania Ave and Kendall Street. The main goal of volunteers is to redirect people going to Kendall and Pennsylvania offering alternative options and providing support. As a community we have worked very hard to keep COVID-19 cases low, those that volunteer will be helping to keep our community safe. Volunteers will be in pairs, you are welcome to request to be with another person. Volunteers will be provided with vests, masks and training on how to manage different situations. On April 6, the Provost’s Task Force on ICC Revision submitted a revised proposal to amend the ICC program to the Committee on College-wide Requirements (CCR), which oversees the ICC program. A particular concern during this time is for students who may be social distancing in a home, apartment, or dorm with an abusive partner or caregiver. Bringing in the Bystander (BITB) teaches bystanders how to safely intervene in situations where an incident may be occurring or where there may be a risk of sexual or relationship violence. This program uses a community of responsibility approach through a well-researched and tailored training program.
Join the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management on April 1 and April 21 to learn about the Rave Guardian App. Rave Guardian App is a centralized application that provides Ithaca College community members with a number of on-campus and off-campus support services and resources. This application features push notifications to provide timely notice to community members in the event of an emergency, critical incident, and changes to institutional operation. The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival announces the Best of the Fest Programmers’ Picks from the 2021 edition.
Professor Kathleen Mulligan, Theatre Arts, will offer a new course "Performing Dialects: Understanding Characters Through Language" as part of the May session 2021. All levels of experience are welcome! The course will provide practice in identifying specific sound changes to shift from one's unique idiolect to the dialect of a character. Exploration of four dialects/accents will be offered in the two-week course.
Do students with low placement scores who take remedial courses in reading and writing do better in courses such as introductory psychology that rely heavily on reading fluency and comprehension?
