The Ithacan has been named a finalist “in one or more categories” in this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Region 1 (Northeast Region) Mark of Excellence Awards competition. The awards are presented for work published during calendar year 2020 (Sophia Adamucci ’20, spring semester editor in chief; Madison Fernandez ’21, fall semester editor in chief). Winners will be announced at this year’s SPJ Virtual Regional Conferences on April 10 and 14-15.. Regional winners will go on to compete against the winners in their categories from SPJ’s other 11 regions for SPJ’s national Mark of Excellence awards. SPJ is the largest professional organization of reporters and editors in the country.

The Ithacan has been named a Gold Medalist for 2019–20 in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual college publication critique. The judges evaluated issues of the paper, as well as the website, produced last academic year (Sophia Adamucci ’20, editor in chief; Zoë Freer-Hessler ‘20, managing editor). The CSPA critique consistently ranks The Ithacan as a Gold Medalist, its highest category. Among the judges’ summary comments: “What distinguishes The Ithacan are the numerous serious issues the writers address through substantive research and interviewing; the outstanding interviewing skills result in thoughtful, in depth quotes. All topics are covered responsibly and maturely. It is rare to see a publication that embraces and excels at all the elements of journalistic writing, but The Ithacan does.” Read more . . . Path to Progress is an ongoing series for the campus community hosted by Marketing and Enrollment Strategy. Presentations focus on the unit’s priorities including admission, retention, marketing and branding efforts, financial aid, constituent engagement, and analytics and institutional research. We are observing a Monday, April 12th deadline for submission of Fall 2021 course adoptions in order to comply with the provisions of the Higher Education Equal Opportunity Act.
