 The Ithacan has been named a finalist “in one or more categories” in this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Region 1 (Northeast Region) Mark of Excellence Awards competition. The awards are presented for work published during calendar year 2020 (Sophia Adamucci ’20, spring semester editor in chief; Madison Fernandez ’21, fall semester editor in chief).

  Winners will be announced at this year’s SPJ Virtual Regional Conferences on April 10 and 14-15.. Regional winners will go on to compete against the winners in their categories from SPJ’s other 11 regions for SPJ’s national Mark of Excellence awards.  

SPJ is the largest professional organization of reporters and editors in the country.

  The Ithacan has been named a Gold Medalist for 2019–20 in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual college publication critique. The judges evaluated issues of the paper, as well as the website, produced last academic year (Sophia Adamucci ’20, editor in chief; Zoë Freer-Hessler ‘20, managing editor). The CSPA critique consistently ranks The Ithacan as a Gold Medalist, its highest category. 

  Among the judges’ summary comments: “What distinguishes The Ithacan are the numerous serious issues the writers address through substantive research and interviewing; the outstanding interviewing skills result in thoughtful, in depth quotes. All topics are covered responsibly and maturely. It is rare to see a publication that embraces and excels at all the elements of journalistic writing, but The Ithacan does.”

Path to Progress is an ongoing series for the campus community hosted by Marketing and Enrollment Strategy. Presentations focus on the unit’s priorities including admission, retention, marketing and branding efforts, financial aid, constituent engagement, and analytics and institutional research.

The March 26th Path to Progress presentation was led by the IC Web Team and focused on an overview of all that has changed on the website the past year. We also learned about the new features and updates you’ll be seeing soon and how you can access help on your IC webpage from the team, and had attendee questions answered.

Beginning this week, students may view the fall 2021 schedule in Homer, and course registrations will begin Tuesday, April 13th. We are observing a Monday, April 12th deadline for submission of Fall 2021 course adoptions in order to comply with the provisions of the Higher Education Equal Opportunity Act. Students must be able to review both the course schedule and the anticipated costs of textbooks associated with those courses at the time they register for courses.

Dear Ithaca College Community,

It is with deepest sadness that we write to the campus community to share news of the unexpected passing today of junior Abby Paquet, an applied psychology major in our School of Humanities and Sciences. Abby was from Williamsville, New York, and a 2018 graduate of Williamsville South High School. She was a leader with the Ithaca College chapter of Habitat for Humanity where she helped build better lives for local families, a Dean’s List student, an inductee into the college’s Oracle Honor Society, and a student employee with Information Technology.
