Stephen Sweet, Associate Professor of Sociology, has been selected to be the next editor of the journal Teaching Sociology, with work beginning August 1, 2014 through December 31, 2017.  As part of the agreement with the American Sociological Association (ASA), Ithaca College has committed 2 course releases during this period (6 classes total), approved by Dean Leslie Lewis.

The Gerontology Institute received a $6000 partner grant from the Human Services Coalition Health Planning Council (HPC) to coordinate and host the Falls Prevention Workshop Series with continuing education credits for physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The Falls Prevention Workshop Series is supported by the Tompkins County Falls Prevention Coalition, led by the Health Planning Council of the Tompkins County Human Services Coalition and the following project partners: Tompkins County Office for the Aging, Lifelong, Finger Lakes Independence Center, Community Health and Home Care, and the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response. The Tompkins County Falls Prevention Coalition has been part of the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York “Step Up to Stop Falls” collaborative since 2010.

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce to the campus community that the college has undertaken a massive project to upgrade the wireless infrastructure across campus.  We spent last academic year conducting site surveys, issuing Response for Proposals (RFPs), and negotiating pricing and we are pleased to announce that work has commenced and will continue through the fall semester of the 2014-2015 academic year.

In an effort to achieve greater coordination and maximize efficiencies among the health-related services provided for students, the College is restructuring the operations of the Hammond Health Center and the Office of Counseling and Wellness. The unified organization will be called the Center for Counseling, Health and Wellness focusing on a shared philosophy of holistic care for Ithaca College students.

Honors students (and qualified non-honors students) are welcome to experience life in colonial Boston and revolutionary New York City.  “The Power and Fate of Republics in Early America,” consists of two elaborate games, set in the past, in which students are assigned roles.  Class sessions are run entirely by students; I advise and guide students and grade your oral and written work.

Interested in being a part of a 24-Hour Theatre Festival on September 12-13th?

Over 24 hours, writers, actors, and directors of all kinds will come together to write, direct, and act in a plethora of different shows.

Writers will begin working at 8pm on Friday, September 12th, and will have 11 hours to write a one-act play. At 7am the next morning, directors will meet with writers to discuss the play and ask any questions they may have. Then, at 8am, directors will meet their cast, and together they will have twelve hours to block, memorize, and rehearse their show before the curtain rises at 8pm Saturday (September 13th) night.
