Ithaca College

Dr. Min Ji is a professor and the former Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Sichuan Normal University, serves as a Fulbright Scholar at Northern Virginia Community College, and is also the founding director of the Center of Women’s Studies at SNU. Dr. Ji holds a Master of Arts Degree in Modern and Contemporary British and American Literature, and a doctorate in Comparative Literature & World Literatures from Sichuan University.

Communication, Culture and Rhetoric (web/online course) will investigate the rhetorical dimensions of the longest-running sitcom in America, The Simpsons. Students will learn how signs and symbols influence us through a process called rhetoric. As they become ‘Simpsonologists’ , students will examine various episodes paying special attention to the ways in which The Simpsons functions as both rhetoric and satire—how it serves as corrective comedy to issues such as consumerism, nationality, sexuality, inequality and political dysfunction.

Some Mac users have reported to the ITS Helpdesk that the search function in OWA is not working. Microsoft acknowledges that there is a bug in the software, but has not announced a date as to when it will be fixed. The problem only occurs while using OWA in Safari or Firefox. A workaround is to use the Chrome browser, in which the search function works as expected.

Children swim among leaking bags; mothers wash in the sewage-filled supply. Each year, we now throw away fifty-eight billion disposable cups, billions of plastic bags, 200 billion litres of water bottles, billions of tons of household waste, toxic waste and e-waste.

Academy Award winning actor Jeremy Irons is no stranger to taking centre stage. But his role as our guide in TRASHED highlighting solutions to the pressing environmental problems facing us all, could well be his most important yet. Having faced the worst through much of TRASHED, Jeremy Irons turns to hope. He goes in search of solutions.

Ithaca College will host a screening of the film “Money & Life” on Wednesday, April 16 at 7pm in Textor 101. “Money & Life” is an inspirational documentary that asks a provocative question: can we see the economic crisis not as a disaster, but as a tremendous opportunity? This film connects the dots on our current economic pains and offers a new story of money based on an emerging paradigm of planetary well-being that understands all of life as profoundly interconnected. “Money & Life” invites us to meet the challenge of our time: to participate in the great transition to a sustainable, equitable and restorative economy that meets the needs and realities of the 21st century.

If you will be studying abroad in the summer or fall on an affiliated, non-affiliated, or exchange program (NOT the London Center), and you have not yet met an adviser in the Office of International Programs to go over required Ithaca College paperwork, please be sure to schedule an appointment ASAP. If this paperwork is not done, you may not be able to get credit or any eligible financial aid for your study abroad program. 

In addition to meeting with an adviser in the Office of International Programs, all students going abroad on an affiliated, non-affiliated, or exchange program must attend a series of study abroad orientations.

  The New Voices Literary Festival will be taking place April 23rd-25th on the Ithaca College campus, featuring seven authors specializing in a variety of topics such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry and playwriting. The festival will feature several readings, panels and a staged reading of one of the plays.

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher House of the Department of Communication Studies who has been appointed to the 2014-15 Eastern Communication Association (ECA) Committee of Scholars.  The Committee of Scholars is comprised of three emerging scholars within the association and participates in selecting the recipient of ECA’s Everett Lee Hunt Award for outstanding scholarly book. The Committee of Scholars is appointed annually by the ECA President.
