Facilitated by Belisa Gonzalez, PhD, Ithaca College, Department of Sociology, and Richard Kiely, PhD, Cornell University, Engaged Learning and Research
This highly interactive workshop for will introduce participants to key concepts and principles of service-learning course design. Participants will learn how to construct learning outcomes and design instructional strategies based a unique integrative course design framework. Participants will discuss how to foster and evaluate students’ critical reflection before, during and after participation in service-learning. The session will share example service-learning syllabi, learning outcome and course design templates and additional service-learning resources.

Eduardo Lopez, co-director and producer of Harvest of Empire, the documentary based on the book by renowned journalist, writer and activist Juan Gonzalez, will be visiting Maria DiFrancesco's ICSM (Exile, Immigration and Terror: The Spanish-Speaking World) on Wednesday Sept. 18th, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Taughannock Falls Meeting Room of the Campus Center. Although officially a class visit, faculty and students interested in the topic of immigration, particularly immigration from the Spanish-speaking world to the United States, are welcome to come to the presentation and to participate in the ensuing dialog. Mr. Lopez will show some clips from the documentary and be available to answer questions from audience members. Attendance is limited to 50, so please RSVP to Tina Bennett by 4:00 p.m., Monday Sept. 16th if you would like to attend.
