Hamula, associate professor and chair of the Department of Strategic Communication, was featured in the book, Media Ethics at Work, True Stories from Young Professionals, by editors Lee Anne Peck and Guy S. Reel, and published by SAGE CQ Press. Hamula's case deals with two recently graduated students, Emily Parnell and Josh Murray, one who agreed to accept a position at a marketing services firm and the other who had just begun working for a media company. How each one chose to be quickly released so that she/he could accept another offer is where the case explores the ethical dilemmas and possibilities. (180 words) Patricia Zimmermann invited speaker at the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture in MinneapolisContributed by Melissa Gattine on 10/01/12 Patricia Zimmermann, professor of Screen Studies and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, was a featured invited presenter at the “Leading Creatively” national conference of the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture in Minneapolis, September 6-8, 2012. Zimmermann facilitated an interactive workshop and panel entitled “Open Space Documentary: How and Why.” The panel featured three new media artists working in transmedia collaborative documentary: Laura Kissel, with her Cotton Road Project about textiles in China; Jesikah Maria Ross, with her project on localized environmental storytelling; and Helen De Michiel, with her Lunch Love Community project, on healthy food in public schools. Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications will be supporting The History Center, in partnership with the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, to bring to life Frederick Douglass’ impassioned 1852 speech. A dramatic reading of Douglass’ speech will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, 116 Cleveland Ave Ithaca, New York. While stumping on behalf of abolitionist Gerrit Smith in his bid for Congress, Douglass visited a number of areas in Central and Upstate New York, delivering impassioned speeches excoriating the inability of politicians to address the evils of slavery and describing a post-slavery America based on the core ideals of opportunity, equality, and democracy.
