Grinnell, Iowa – The Ithaca women's track & field team will open competition at the two-day NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by Grinnell, Friday. Four Ithaca athletes will be in action at the meet –seniors Emma Dewart and Jessica Hoeffner and juniors Jenn Randall and Amanda Rissmeyer.

The Park Center for Independent Media is happy to announce that its fourth annual Izzy Award for outstanding achievement in independent media will be shared by journalist Sharif Abdel Kouddous and the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) public interest newsgroup.

Abdel Kouddous is being recognized for his riveting firsthand reporting from the Tahrir Square people's uprising in Egypt, where he was frequently in danger. CMD is being honored for its illuminating work in probing into the collusion of lawmakers with the American Legislative Exchange Council, a secretive organization funded by corporations to write or influence the writing of laws on both the state and federal levels.

The awards will be given at a ceremony at IC on April 10, at which both Abdel Kouddous (right) and CMD executive director Lisa Graves will speak. Details will be announced in the next few weeks.

LaCrosse, Wis. – The NCAA has announced seedings and complete brackets for this weekend’s NCAA Championships, to be hosted by Wisconsin-LaCrosse Friday and Saturday. Five of Ithaca’s six entrants have been seeded, including a pair of Bombers who earned the top seed in their weight class.

Violinist Brian Lewis and pianist Laura Kennedy will give this year’s Louis K. Thaler Concert Violinist Series performance at Ithaca College on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.  The free concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. The program will include music of Darius Milhaud, Robert Schumann, Robert Avalon, Robert Russell Bennett, and Aaron Copland.

The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to host "Negotiating the Politics of Display and Representation: A Discussion about Images, Text, and the Gaze on Black Womanhood," a salon moderated by Shauna Morgan Kirlew, Pre-doctoral Diversity Fellow in the Department of English, taking place on Tuesday, March 6, at 4.00 P.M.. Following a presentation on her research, Kirlew will moderate a relevant discussion on the distortion and consumption of images of black womanhood, with a particular focus on the conflicting portrayals in contemporary media and literature.

The lifetime achievements of John A. Krout, professor emeritus and retired founding director of the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute (ICGI), were recognized recently as the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) gave Professor Krout the 2012 Clark Tibbitts Award at AGHE’s 38th annual meeting in Arlington, Virginia. This award, named for an AGHE founder, is given by the association each year to an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of gerontology and geriatrics education.
