Delay in Homer Upgrade

The unforeseen electrical problems that occurred on campus Sunday, June 13, caused some computing systems to be unavailable.  As a result, the upgrade to Homer, HomerConnect, and some related systems will be delayed until 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 15.  Thank you for your patience.
 

On Thursday, June 17, 2010 , Noon -1 p.m. in Clark Lounge, we will discuss the recent excursion to August Wilson’s FENCES play on Broadway.  Come be a part of the conversation and give voice to an American experience!

If you are a faculty or staff member who has purchased Microsoft Office through the Home Use Program, you may have received an e-mail from Microsoft offering an upgrade to Office 2010. If you wish to take advantage of the upgrade offer, you should use the same program code that you used for your original purchase.

Whether you are upgrading or using the program for the first time, the program code and other details can be found after logging into the Home Use Program site. Microsoft is currently only offering Office 2010 for Windows or Office 2008 for Macintosh through this program.

Please note that Office 2010 has only been out for a few weeks and has not yet been evaluated by ITS.

The Strike Duo, which consists of pianist Jeffery Meyer, director of the Ithaca College Orchestras, and percussionist Paul Vaillancourt, recently performed at the Beijing Modern Festival at the Central Conservatory in Beijing as well as the Tianjin Conservatory. The Beijing Modern Festival is China's largest and most important international new music festival, which began almost 10 years ago at the Central Conservatory. International guests this year include Chen Yi, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Samuel Adler, as well as performing groups from Canada, United States, Australia, England and Austria. In addition, Meyer gave masterclasses in orchestral conducting at the Central Conservatory. The Tianjin Conservatory, whose forerunner was the Central Conservatory, is now one of China's leading conservatories, made up of over 181 full-time instructors.

Many members of the campus community have been seeking advice from ITS on the purchase of Netbooks and Apple iPads. The advantages of these devices over traditional laptops are cost, size and weight. However, these devices are not substitutes for laptops and do not have the functionality found in a standard laptop. Netbooks and iPads typically meet “personal” needs, but are generally not suitable for “business” needs. and, in many ways are similar to cell phones and smart phone devices.
