Between April 20-24, 2010, the College Sport Research Institute Conference held on the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill campus was the destination of choice for a group of 10 students and Dr. Staurowsky.   While at the Conference, students had an opportunity to attend sessions, compete in a case study competition, and meet scholars and students from around the country.

A team of four sport management majors – Jon Gregory ’10, Greg Lewinter ’11, Robb Pearson ’11, and  Jason Young ’12 – traveled to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill to participate in a case study competition April 22-24, 2010. Competing against teams from Coastal Carolina University,  Duquesne University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania,  Loras College, Nebraska-Wesleyan University,  Nichols College, St. Leo University, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Ithaca placed second after two days of intense competition.

After thorough evaluation and testing, ITS is now supporting Mozilla Thunderbird 3 for Windows and recommends that all Thunderbird users upgrade to the new version.

Thunderbird 3 has several new features including tab-style messaging, improved search capabilities, new toolbar options, attachment reminders and more. Our one-page upgrade guide provides detailed steps for upgrading from Thunderbird 2 to 3, as well as information about other resources for learning all about the new version.

Asma Barlas, professor of politics and director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, has published a chapter, “Embodying Islam and Muslims: Religious and Secular Inscriptions,” in The Body Unbound: Philosophical Perspectives on Politics, Embodiment and Religion.  The book, edited by Marius Timmann Mjaaland, Ola Sigurdson, and Sigridur Thorgeirsdottir, has just been released by Cambridge Scholars Publishing.

Asma Barlas, professor of politics and director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, gave the keynote address at the Festival of Friendship dinner by the Ottawa Muslim Women's Organization on April 25th.  The dinner, which was attended by about 400 people, is hosted annually by OMWO, a religious, non-profit and charitable Canadian organization.

Members of the Do Anything Nice Organization are looking for enthusiastic leaders to help carry on the organization next semester.


D.A.N  mission is to promote the value of kindness through student action. We aim to build long standing movements of social change.

The main ITS public labs will follow the regular academic schedule until Friday, May 14. Please see our public labs website for details. CHS will be open additional hours on Saturday 5/1 and Saturday 5/8 from 12pm-5pm.

The Student Computer Repair Center will be closing for the semester on Monday, May 10. The last day to receive Apple or Dell warranty repairs will be 5pm on Friday, April 30. The last day to receive non-warranty repairs will be 8pm on Monday, May 10.

ITS is pleased to offer a brand new workshop on using Adobe Acrobat Professional to create electronic forms, called "Acrobat: Creating Forms." This workshop will show you how to use Adobe Acrobat’s built-in form wizard tools to create simple, accessible PDF forms. You will get hands-on practice building your own form using elements such as text fields, list boxes, radio buttons, and check boxes.
