Barry Caudill, executive producer of Firaxis Games, will present a lecture, titled "Be all that you can be in the Game Industry," on Friday, April 16, at 4:00 p.m. in the Park Auditorium.

Caudill's talk will be an introduction to the game industry including its practices and roles and tips on how to get a job in gaming.

The lecture is sponsored by the Roy H. Park School of Communications and the Department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts. It is open to all Ithaca College students, faculty and staff.

Hongwei Guan, Department of  Health Promotion and Physical Education, co-authored a poster presentation with X.D. Keating, G. Liang,and L.Chen, "Physical Activity Differences Among Students in a Southern State University" at the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) annual conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, March 2010.

Phoebe Constantinou, assistant professor, Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education, recently published an article entitled, "Keeping the Excitement Alive: Tchoukball and Cooperative Learning," in the peer-reviewed journal, The Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, (volume 81, number 3, pages 30-35).

Srijana Bajracharya, Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education, and Janet Wigglesworth, Associate Dean, School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, along with Sue Baldwin, Buffalo State College, presented a paper on Knowledge and Barriers to Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Screening among College Employees at the AAHPERD National Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 9, 2010. This was a replication of the study that was previously conducted at Ithaca College.

Anthropology through Film

 

Course Description and Objectives:

 

The online course will be an overview of the relationship between cultural anthropology and film. We will watch a variety of films by ethnographic filmmakers and anthropologists, as well as “Hollywood” style documentary films that cover cultural representations and viewpoints to discuss how these two genres inform, converge and diverge from the groups represented. Discussion and critical analysis of the readings and films are an integral part of the course.   This class will also address (a) what films show (and do not show); (b) how Western culture uses images of non-Western peoples; and (c) how non-Western peoples use images of themselves.&
