THU Sept 19: 6-pm-7:30 @ TCPL (Borg-Warner West room); report back from El Salvador and Colombia. Join us for a conversation with Patricia Rodriguez (Politics Prof., IC) and Beth Harris (School of the Americas Watch) who went to El Salvador together on a migration delegation with US-El Salvador Sister Cities in July. Patricia also went to visit the Women’s Movement for the Defense of Life, in Cajibio, Colombia.

There are things that about immigration and about ‘peace’ and development in Latin America that the mainstream discussions on these issues are leaving undiscussed, and that need to be part of an analysis of why people are being pushed out of their territories and find little support for any alternative but to migrate.

Café con IDEAS

Café con IDEAS provides a platform for student-artists to develop and project their voice in a 50-minute set while sharing personal narratives rooted in social change, identity and/or anti-oppression. Ranging from comedy, spoken word, dance and performance, song, and speed art, each session is designed to engage the audience through creative arts and empower individuals to look inward and consider their own responsibility to social change.

Registration is currently open for the Fall offering of the R.A.D. self-defense course for women. Spaces still remain available for this class, which will be conducted in four 3-hour sessions on Tuesday evenings during October from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  This course is open to any student, faculty or staff member who identifies as female.
