Anthony Maiello '65 B.S., '67 M.S. -- whose many activities include serving as professor of music and director of instrumental studies at George Mason University -- will make two appearances at Ithaca College as the second Colonel Arnald Gabriel '50 HDRMU '89 Visiting Wind Conductor.

Maiello will conduct the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble on Wednesday, December 5, and the concert and symphonic bands on Thursday, December 6. Free and open to the public, the performances will start at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music at Ithaca College.

Cory Brown, associate professor of writing, has published poems in recent issues of three literary journals and has published a philosophical essay, "On Thinking," in the most recent issue of the literary magazine Diner (spokenword.to/diner). The essay is a version of an unpublished, book-length essay.

ITS and Verizon are working together to install new telephone and voice mail systems on campus in January. The current systems are at the end of their life cycles and are being updated to a modern communication system with many new features and capabilities.

Madelyn Mooney Williams, associate professor in the Department of Journalism, a presented a paper at the 19th biennial international conference of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS). During a panel discussion, Williams presented a research paper entitled, "Hands across the Table: An Exploration of Food TV in Canada and the United States."

The final event in the fall Tuesday Salon series: an informal gathering of students, staff, and faculty to discuss, question, and think aloud -- together -- about issues and events that vex, entertain, confuse, and connect us.

What: "Beyond 'Beyond Beats and Rhymes' - Hip Hop, Masculinity, and the American Dream" -- a discussion facilitated by Sean Eversley-Bradwell, assistant professor, Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity. Long-awaited follow-up to the thought-provoking September screening of the similarly-titled documentary by Byron Hurt.

John Confer has recently received a three-year State Wildlife Grant for $150,000 to assess habitat restoration for golden-winged warblers and to develop statewide plans for shrubland management.
