Jewish Indian visual artist Siona Benjamin will join South Asian dancer Ishrat Hoque in a performance entitled “Color Me Blue” on Tuesday evening March 27 at Ithaca College. Described as “an exploration of female energy and power,” this event will be set in the Handwerker Art Gallery (Gannett Center) surrounded by Siona Benjamin’s paintings, which are on exhibit through April 7.

Ithaca College has suspended its affiliation with the School for International Training (SIT) as of March 15, effective immediately. Any student planning to study abroad with SIT during the upcoming academic year (summer, fall or spring) should contact the Office of International Programs right away to discuss other study abroad options.

Cutting to Cope: Understanding Self-Injury and How to Stop the Cycle
Monday, March 26th, 7:00 p.m., Clark Lounge

Cutting or burning yourself, interfering with the healing of wounds, hitting or bruising yourself, and biting your fingernails excessively are all forms of self-injury.

Self-Injury is the act of physically hurting yourself on purpose without the intent of committing suicide. It is a method of coping during an emotionally difficult time that helps some people temporarily feel better because they have a way to physically express and release the tension and the pain they hold inside.

Learn more about self-injury and how to respond to a friend who might be hurting her/himself.

A panel presentation by: Dr Vivian Lorenzo, Hammond Health Center; Dr Suki Montgomery, Counseling Center; Lind Koenig, Residential Life, and a self-injurer in recovery.

Asma Barlas, director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE) and professor of politics, gave an invited talk at a conference, "Muslim Women: Between Oppression and Self-Empowerment," organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Cologne, Germany, on March 9. She also made a presentation March 14 on "Islam, Gender, and the War on Terror," at Bates College in Maine.
