Lisa Farman, Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication, presented her research at the 2018 annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication, held in Washington, D.C., August 6-9.  Dr. Farman's blind-peer-reviewed research paper was titled: Personalized news in the age of distraction: Testing the effectiveness of personalized news under multitasking conditions. The Office of Facilities is pleased to announce that there will not be a need for the scheduled campus power shutdown originally scheduled for Sunday, August 12th.  As a result of work that was completed by the Facilities staff and outside contractors during the previous shutdown the need no longer exists.

We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during the previous shutdowns which have allowed this work to be completed.

James A. Rada, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Journalism, was in Washington DC to present at the Annual Conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).  Rada presented on a panel titled, "Teaching Race and Diversity in the Trump Era of Race, Rage and Resentment: Challenges and Pedagogical Opportunities."

If you have taken any Introduction to Drawing class -whether it is ICC designated or a standard Intro course, you have the prerequisite to take the intermediate level of drawing. Note if you took the ICC version of the Intro course you will need to request an override.

The course runs in the Fall semester on Wed and Fri from 1-3:40. Assignments center on expanding work begun in Intro to Drawing including work with the figure and spatial representation but also pushes students into more complex problem solving both compositionally and conceptually. Media include graphite, inks, charcoal and gouache, substrates include traditional drawing papers as well as mylar and wood panels. Topics center on utopia and dystopia, fact vs. fiction in scientific drawing and much more. Email ssutton@ithaca.edu with any questions.

Credited as being the first detective novel, Bleak House is a dark comedy that combines mystery, social Darwinism, slippery gender roles, layered plots and a cast of nearly a hundred characters in Dickens’s attempt to create a three-dimensional experience of mid-century London.
