Emmy Award-Winning filmmakers Sarah Moshman and Dana Michelle Cook created a documentary that shines light on positive female role models. This event is funded as part of the Park Distinguished Visitor Series through generosity of the Park Foundation.

Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Sarah Moshman and Dana Michelle Cook were tired of the lack of positive female role models in the media, and felt inspired to make a change. The result is the documentary entitled The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things.

You are invited to a screening of The Empowerment Project on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Park Hall Auditorium. A Q&A Session with the filmmakers will follow. The event is funded as part of the Park Distinguished Visitor Series through generosity of the Park Foundation.

Asian American Alliance partnered with Brothers for Brothers to host an intercollegiate basketball tournament fundraiser. Students from Ithaca College and Cornell University as well as from the Ithaca community were invited to form teams of 3-4 players. The tournament was held Saturday, Feb. 20 in the Mondo Gym.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! For those who don’t speak French, that means “let the good times roll,” a traditional phrase used in celebration of Mardi Gras, the theme of the African Latino Society’s annual social. Festive colors decorated the event — gold for power, purple for justice, and green for faith.Tickets were sold and donations were accepted to fundraise for the water crisis occurring in Flint, Michigan. The "Winter Wonderland Ball" was held Saturday, Feb. 20 in Emerson Suites and is part of the series of events for Black History Month.

Students Today Alumni Tomorrow hosted their fourth annual "I <3 IC" event Feb. 15-19. Events of the week began with a minute-to-win-it style game called Kickback to Give Back where teams of 5 competed to donate $250 to their chosen charity. The winning charity was Wyldlife Young Life of Ithaca. Other events included the "Five under Five: Looking Back, Moving Forward" panel, where five alumni under five years after graduating spoke on a panel; "IC Kindness" Day, where students were invited to write thank you notes to members of the campus community; Get the Scoop on Philanthropy, where students could write thank you notes to donors and received ice cream sundaes served by celebrity faculty and staff scoopers; and ended with "Celebrate IC" Day, where everyone was invited to share why they love Ithaca College.

IC Players held their annual performance of the "Vagina Monologues", a series of monologues based off of interviews with real women about their views on sex, relationships, and the feminine experience as a whole. Senior Samantha Guter directed the show, which was originally written by Eve Ensler. Proceeds from the ticket sales benefited "V-Day", an organization committed to fighting violence against women. "Vagina Monologues" was held on Sunday, Feb. 14 in Emerson Suites.

Flying under the radar of IC's cause-based student organizations since its inception in October 2013, Ithaca College China Care Club (IC3C) has seen great success since its re-branding this past academic year. IC3C kicked off the semester with a bang, organizing its “One Billion Rising” event this past Valentine’s Day in the IC Fitness Center to promote awareness of domestic violence. Being able to host this event, which also happens to be part of an international revolution to end violence against women, was an opportunity that the student organization was very grateful to have.

The Center for the Study of Culture Race and Ethnicity presents a four-part 101 series designed to introduce participants to key concepts and conversations about race and racism. The first presentation, Racism 101: The Grounding of Race in America, will be held this Friday, February 26th from 3-4 PM in the Taughannock Falls room, Campus Center.
