(The following message is being submitted on behalf of Dr. Timothy Carey, Associate Vice President, Facilities)

 I am pleased to share with the IC Community that Ernie McClatchie, Director of Grounds and Transportation, has accepted an appointment to expand his scope of responsibility within the Facilities Department.  In addition to his continued management of the College’s Grounds and Transportation functional units, Ernie will now also assume leadership oversight of all of the Maintenance Shops, which include: Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Electrical, Plumbing, Preventative Maintenance, and  Structural (carpentry, painting, masonry, etc.).  The expanded role will enable more focused and streamlined leadership of all of the units within Ernie’s purview, resulting in enhanced delivery of first-rate customer service to our valued students, colleagues and visitors.

Please join me in congratulating Ernie on his appointment to this new and expanded role within our evolving Facilities Department.

Demystifying Ebola

The Ithacan has been named a finalist for the National Newspaper Pacemaker Award and the National Online Pacemaker Award by the Associated Collegiate Press.
The winners of the awards — widely regarded as “the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism” — will be announced at this fall's National College Media Convention in Philadelphia on November 1. 
The Associated College Press is the oldest and largest membership organization of college journalists in the country.  

On Thursday, October 30, 2014, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., Ithaca College will hold its first ever "POD" event to vaccinate staff and faculty against the seasonal flu!

Please dress appropriately to be able to receive a shot in the upper arm!

In order to greatly expedite the POD, all faculty and staff members who plan to receive their flu shots at this event are asked to print the Influenza Vaccine Screening and Consent form and Vaccine Information Sheet, found at the following link and bring the filled out form to the Fitness Center: https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/healthcenter/docs/InfluenzaScreening.pdf

The cutthroat corporate world of “Mad Men” gets the musical comedy treatment from Ithaca College Theatre as it presents the Tony Award–winning “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Performances will run in the Hoerner Theatre at 8 p.m. on Nov. 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 9.

Is giving a speech not your bread and butter? Come join the Ithaca College chapter of Toastmasters.  At Toastmasters, we will help you learn the skills that can help you give a speech like a piece of cake (or Toast). 

We have a new meeting time, every other Wednesday and the first Monday of every month.  Our first Monday meeting is November 3 at 6 PM in the DeMott Conference Room. We invite faculty, staff, and students to join us!

With Halloween approaching later this week, the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management would like to provide a reminder to please be thoughtful and safe with regard to Halloween costumes and decorations.  In particular, the use of simulated weapons can be a dangerous practice that creates a severe risk for both students and for Public Safety officers and other college staff.
