Ithaca College's Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE) invites you to join us at the final event of the 2012 Discussion Series on "Black Men", titled Creative Acts, Communal Celebrations. This Hip Hop/Spoken Word Show will feature local artists, bringing together the Ithaca and IC Community. Performers includes DJ Double A, Ave Mack of the Empire Kings, Nomadz of Nomadz Rekkids, Money Mars, Ernest Verb, Jay Scar, Kid N0va, Dubian, and other local musicians.

The advisor attends weekly e-board meetings during the lunch hour on Tuesdays and has biweekly meetings with the President and Vice President to discuss the club.  Additionally, this person also comes to events when possible and helps answer questions that the e-board may have regarding campus rules or how to go about planning an event.

If you or another faculty or staff member that you know may be interested, please email Julia Cicale at jcicale1@ithaca.edu.  This position is essential to Habitat’s existence, and any help in finding an advisor would be greatly appreciated.

On April 25th at 7pm, The History Center will present a public program featuring Ithaca College students on local environmental history. The event showcases students' research on relevant subjects. This year's projects include a look at the role of coal in the local economy over time, 1935 flood, and an environmental history of The Commons.  This event is free and open to the public.

Many on campus have strong feelings about the endless conflict in the Middle East. Due to their very different narratives, Israelis celebrate their independence and Palestinians mourn for their naqbah (catastrophe) on the very same date – this year on Thursday, April 26th. Late that afternoon, Hillel and the Student Alliance For Israel (SAFI) are sponsoring an outdoor campus-wide celebration on the Campus/Fitness Center Quad. Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) will hold vigils and demonstrations on the Academic Quad from April 24-26 to make their views public.

Mara Alper’s video art Silent Echoes will screen at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London on April 19. It is part of Artists’ Film Club: Work from the Experimental TV Center Archive, a curated program “celebrating the great works that have been made at the Experimental Television Center over the years.” Alper has garnered numerous artist residencies and grants from ETC. Silent Echoes (1990) is a poetic exploration of issues of diversity in the workplace in the life of a spirited Haitian dancer.

Violet Senderai, a sophomore cinema and photography major, had her film, “Kuvuka Daraja” selected for the International Black Women’s Film Festival.

Her film is a psychological journey of an international student from Tanzania at Cornell University, dealing with being away from home, her love for dance and the sudden illness of her mother. The film is featured in both English and Swahili.
