During fall 2011, the School of Humanities and Sciences funded 20 academic projects with awards totaling nearly $14,000 as part of the Educational Grant Initiative (EGI). 

In addition, during the fall 2011 semester, the EGI “Easy Access Funds” for student conference attendance awarded nearly $10,000 in grant support for more than 45 students to present original research or creative work at conferences during the fall and spring semesters.

Normally, group meets Tuesdays 5:00-5:50 PM at Counseling and Psychological Services whenever classes are in session.  However, we regret to have to cancel our 10/25 meeting.

The Cortaca Jug Football game will be held Saturday, November 12th at 12 pm at Butterfield Stadium at Ithaca College.

There are a LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS AVAILABLE. No tickets will be sold at the gate on the day of the game. Tickets are required to enter the stadium. College IDs will not allow you admission to the game.

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) recently awarded Ithaca College’s student chapter with the “Region 1 Chapter of the Year Award” at the SPJ/RTDNA National Conference in September. SPJ also recognized the chapter’s adviser, Mead Loop, with the David L. Eshelman Outstanding Campus Advisor Award.

Executive board members Carly Gill ’13, Maya Kachroo-Levine ’13, Julianne Feller ’13 and Kera Schulze ’13 were in attendance to receive the award (pictured).

The National Conferences of The College Music Society present higher education's broadest array of topics dealing with music. Academic citizenship, administration, music business and industry, careers in music, community engagement, composition, cultural inclusion, ethnomusicology, higher education, mentoring, music education, music in general studies, music technology, music theory, musicology, performance, and the scholarship of teaching and learning are explored in a variety of formats, including open discussions.

The Fifty-Fourth National Conference was held October 20-23, 2011, in Richmond, Virginia.  The conference was held in conjunction with the 2011 National Conference of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI) in the Omni Richmond.

Diana Cui '12 and Patricia Morin '12 were named recipients of the Advertising Women of New York Scholarship Award (AWNY) for the 2011-2012 academic year. The students were chosen for their genuine interest in the advertising industry and have maintained strong academic records. The $2,000 scholarship is applied toward tuition expenses.

A design by Denise Psyhogios ’12 was also chosen by representatives from AWNY to be used as the official poster for the 55th annual Advertising Career Conference in November.

Mara Alper’s documentary, Visions of the Huichol, was curated for screening in the “Cinema Wixarika” film festival in Guadalajara, Mexico in September 2011. Curator Carlos Escobedo selected it to show the story of the bead and yarn artworks made by this traditional tribe in Mexico.

The film is bilingual, with the Spanish translation made by Annette Levine, associate professor in Modern Languages and Literatures.

Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography and media arts and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, delivered two invited lectures in The Netherlands in October analyzing documentary, historiography, and new media in Indonesia.

Her talk “Archives, Historiography, and Recording the Future,” was part of a special workshop probing the Recording the Future project, an long-term archival and ethnographic initiative to document six cities in Indonesia on a regular basis to track changes in public life post-Reformasi. The Royal Netherlands Institute for Southeast Asia and Caribbean Studies (KITLV) assembled anthropologists, sociologists, historians, public health and media researchers to consider this evolving documentation project of everyday life in Indonesia.
