The Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs is looking for faculty, staff and students who are willing to present a workshop for the Leading @ IC track part of the Student Leadership Institute.

Volunteer to share your expertise with the Ithaca College community. Some examples of presentations include: running a program on a budget, fundraising, and how to make a smooth executive board transition.

Dr. Donathan Brown, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, has just published an article in the latest issue ofCommunication Law Review. His study, "In Defense of Unity & English-Only: On the Early Political Battles to 'Unite' the Nation," studies the arguments waged in defense of unifying the nation around discriminatory state-level immigration reform and official language policies. Given the timeless nature of this topic, Dr. Brown will incorporate this study into his fall course, "Rhetoric and Social Order." 

Katharyn Howd Machan, Writing, served as artist-in-residence for the Skyros Institute on Skyros Island, Greece, as poet and dancer June 21-July 1. Two sonnets from her collection SKYROS (FootHills Publishing, 2001) are included in the recently published book documenting the Institute, SKYROS: ISLAND OF DREAMS by British author Jane Salvage.

The Caring and Sharing Committee is *accepting donations of new or very gently used backpacks, lunchboxes, and other school supplies for Ithaca College employees needing assistance. Donations will be accepted through August 24 at the following locations:

  • Bookstore
  • Peggy R. Williams Center, ground floor
  • Office of Public Safety, foyer
  • Facilities Main Office

Monetary donations may be mailed to Crystal Young, Center for Public Safety.  Checks should be made out to Ithaca College. 

*Donation suggestions include 3-ring binders (1.5" & 2"); lose leaf paper (wide ruled); crayons (24 count); markers; blue and black pens, pencils and colored pencils; glue sticks; safety scissors; tissues; disinfectant wipes.

A total of eight new members will be inducted into the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame. The annual induction ceremony will be held Oct. 14, in the college’s Emerson Suites. The eight inductees represent 10 sports. Joining the Hall of Fame will be Ron Amato ’01, Dave Dasch ’86, Brian DeLola ’90, Ann DelSignore ’93, Erin DeMarco ’01, Rhonda Faunce ’85, Laura Remia ’01 and Tom Schoen ’71.

Dr. Helene Larin, Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Physical Therapy presented at the 16th Conference of the World Confederation of Physical Therapists (WCPT) held in Amsterdam, Holland, in June. The project "Robotic Mobility and Infant Capability" was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Carole Dennis (Occupational Therapy) and Dr. Sharon Stansfield (Computer Science). Support for this event was received from the offices of the Provost and HSHP, and PT Department.

Alexandra Bates is the most recent in a series of student researchers to co-author a paper or publish an article with Professor Danette Johnson in the Department of Communication Studies (H&S).  The paper, entitled, "Instructor Swearing and Student Perceptions of Instructor Competence and Trustworthiness: An Expectancy Violations Theory Analysis" was blind reviewed and accepted for presentation at the 2011 National Communication Association convention in New Orleans (November).

Jeffery Meyer, Ithaca College Director of Orchestras, will spend the next two weeks as a member of the guest conducting faculty at the Beijing International Composition Workshop at China's Central Conservatory in Beijing.  He will be working with young composers in residence at the Conservatory, conducting nearly a dozen world premiere performances of works written by the composition fellows, and coaching Chinese musicians in the chamber group setting. 

He will also give a lecture entitled "Professionalism and Career Development for Young Composers".

Please have all required forms fully approved into school deans' offices by the end of the business day.

Faculty members already supervising or planning to supervise internships this summer should review official class lists and report any errors to their dean's office immediately.

The official summer session 2011 Academic Calendar has been REVISED. This calendar includes add/drop deadlines, S/D/F submit and revoke deadlines, withdrawal deadlines, and other important dates and deadlines.

Important changes have been made both to the summer sessions' S/D/F submit and revoke deadlines, and withdrawal deadlines. This includes May Session, Summer Sessions I and II, and internships and independent studies.

Changes are effective immediately, but are not retroactive.
