MC Lyte, who was raised in Brooklyn, New York, has had a successful career in the entertainment business. Lyte was one of the first female rappers to bring attention to the sexism and misleading notions about women that often run rampant in hip-hop. We're excited to have this activist and prominent hip-hop icon serve as our breakfast keynote speaker for the first all-day celebration of MLK Day on January 21, 2008.

Nicolas Barajas '08 is one of 20 students nationwide selected to participate in the New York Times Student Journalism Institute, held January 2-13 at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

The institute is an 11-day, hands-on journalism residency program offered to aspiring reporters, editors, photographers, and designers who are student members of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).

Summer grants for faculty research are intended to support post-terminal degree scholarly endeavors for full-time continuing Ithaca College faculty and faculty regularly employed on at least a half-time basis.

Awards provide $3,350 in compensation for eight weeks of full-time research. Proposals are due in the Office of the Provost by Friday, February 15.

As a result of the campus telephone service interruption that will take place from approximately 8:00–11:00 p.m. this Friday, January 4, a temporary number must be used to contact the Office of Public Safety in the event of an emergency. The Blue Light telephone system will also be down during this time. The Office of Public Safety can be contacted at 607-256-9187 via cell phone or other non-campus phone. This telephone number is only to be used during the three-hour service interruption.
