Campus Sustainability Day will be held this Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in various areas in the Campus Center. This annual celebration showcases what our campus community is doing to advance sustainability. The daylong event features displays and demonstrations by campus groups and departments and presentations by faculty, students, and special guests.

Andrei Guruianu’s first full-length collection of poetry, Days When I Saw
the Horizon Bleed, was published in September by New York-based FootHills
Publishing. The poems in the book range from recollections of his
childhood in Romania, life as a young immigrant to the United States and
his experiences living now as a writer in upstate New York. Guruianu is a
lecturer in the writing department. Guruianu is also a freelance writer and columnist for Binghamton’s Press &
Sun-Bulletin.

Antonio DiRenzo delivered the keynote address, "And the Violent Bear It Away: Flannery
O'Connor and the Menace of Apocalyptic Terrorism," at a national
conference called Flannery O'Connor and the Age of Terror in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, October 5 to 7. The keynote detailed the history of violent
fundamentalist millenarian sects from the fourth century to the present.

The Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER), established in 1995 as a world wide independent forum for academics and researchers, has accepted a paper from Dr. Liz Callaghan/Sociology. The paper: Women, Agency and Life Changes, will be presented in Athens, Greece on May 15th, 2007.

The Tompkins-Cortland County chapter of Habitat for Humanity has joined forces with the Cornell University and Ithaca College campus Habitat chapters to build the frame of a house that will be transported to Harrison County, Mississippi. Operation: Home Delivery has provided families affected by Hurricane Katrina a new home in the Habitat tradition, while using volunteer labor from across the country. Community volunteers are welcome in the Lowe’s parking lot on Saturday, October 28th, from 10am to 5pm. No advance volunteer sign up is required.

Susan Swensen and Jason Hamilton jointly presented a talk entitled "Broadening Participation in Sustainability" at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Conference at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, in October.

Their presentation outlined how sustainability has spread through the Ithaca College campus and what events have been important in broadening participation by faculty and students.

Re: HomerConnect Degree Audit

HomerConnect is the new student information system at Ithaca College. This system has replaced SIS for students and is the mechanism used for registration, viewing degree audits, viewing grades, viewing class schedules, and accessing unofficial transcripts.

We are now prepared to roll out the Curriculum, Advising, and Program Planning (CAPP) menu. The scheduled go live date is November 3, 2006. This is the module that replaces the degree audit menu in Degree Navigator. Students should use this tool when reviewing course needs with their adviser and checking their graduation requirements. If you see situations in CAPP that do not agree with what you believe are your program requirements, please email us at capp@ithaca.edu and we will look into the situation.
