Ithaca College squeaked by Harvard University for the number fifteen position in week five of RecycleMania, a friendly competition among university recycling programs in the United States. While falling from number twelve last week, Ithaca remains in first place in New York State, outpacing Hamilton College and Binghamton University. Rob Gearhart, former faculty member in the Park School of Communications, has returned to Ithaca College as the new director of Online Learning, Certificate, and Professional Programs in the Division of Graduate Studies. In this new role, Rob will coordinate programs that utilize online or blended learning approaches in the delivery of online coursework, certificate, and professional programs. He will work closely with Greg Woodward in the Division of Graduate Studies, Kim Milling in Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, the Office of Information Technology Services, as well as deans, chairs, and faculty members from interested programs as the director of a new college initiative to develop more online learning opportunities and offerings for our current students as well as for select professional audiences from outside the college.

This year's C.P. Snow Lecture Series presents Manjul Bhargava, from Princeton University, speaking on "Drumming and Poetry, The Nature of Human Thought and the Origins of Mathematics." This event will be held on Thursday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 103. Professor Bhargava will integrate his lecture with percussion performances using a Tabla, a small India hand drum.

Dutch bass and contrabass trombonist Brandt Attema will give a free guest recital on Tuesday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Kathy Hansen will collaborate on piano, and a trombone choir will accompany Attema on David Anderson's "Elegy for Van." There will also be music by Schnyder, Sandstrom, Casterede, Gillingham, and Telemann.

Due to recent system maintenance, a change was made to the default settings in the College's Webmail system that caused HTML-formatted e-mails to display improperly for some users. This change affects messages like the Intercom roundup on March 9 and 13, and other HTML-only messages. Starting March 16, the Intercom roundup will include a plain text version as well for those who prefer not to receive HTML e-mails or haven't changed their Webmail settings.
