Steven Mauk (Professor of Saxophone) was one of the professionals featured at the Biennial Conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance, held at the University of Iowa in Iowa City from February 15-18. He performed LIQUID GOLD for soprano saxophone and piano by Ithaca College composer Dana Wilson and was one of only five individuals chosen to present a master class.

Trombonist and performance artist Abbie Conant will give a free concert at 8:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites at Ithaca College on Thursday, March 2. William Osborne will collaborate in the role of composer and video producer. The performance will feature “Cybeline,” a music theater work for performance-artist, glove controller, trombone, video, and quadraphonic surround sound; and “Music for the End of Time” for trombone and quadraphonic tape.

A paper co-authored by Michael Haaf and Ithaca College undergraduate Meredith Cummings was published in the most recent issue of Angewandte Chemie International Edition, a leading, peer-reviewed chemistry journal. The paper, entitled "Solving the Clogging Problem: Precipitate-Forming Reactions in Flow," represents a collaboration between the chemistry department at Ithaca College and Professor D. Swimming Lessons for All Ages

The Ithaca College Women's Swimming and Diving Team offers swimming lessons for all ages. Lessons will take place in four 45-minute sessions on Saturdays, March 25, April 1, 8, and 22. Lessons take place from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Participants are taught by a member of the team either one-on-one, or one instructor per two students.

Violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg--called by one critic "a master musician at the height of her powers"--will play a program of Brahms sonatas with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott at Ithaca College on Thursday, March 2. The third and final offering in the yearlong Ithaca College Concerts season "Return Engagements," the performance will take place at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

Guest saxophonist Wildy Zumwalt will give a free recital at Ithaca College on Tuesday, February 28. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. With Kathy Hansen collaborating on the piano, Zumwalt will be joined by two of his former saxophone students, Craig Poissant and Jacob Eisenman, who are now graduate students in the Ithaca College School of Music. The program will include works by Hindemith, Wirth, Rorem, and Ibert.

It is with great sadness that I inform the Ithaca College community of the death of Emily "Dale" Lang. Dale passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2006, at Robert Packer Hospital. Dale was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Lester Lang. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Aubrey Lang, Kenny and Jessica Lang; also her grandson, Liam, all of Candor.
