On Monday, February 13, "Paper Clips" will be shown in the Handwerker Gallery at 6:30 p.m. Whitwell Middle School in rural Tennessee is the setting for this documentary about an extraordinary experiment in Holocaust education.

On Monday, February 13, "Paper Clips" will be shown in the Handwerker Gallery at 6:30 p.m. Whitwell Middle School in rural Tennessee is the setting for this documentary about an extraordinary experiment in Holocaust education. Struggling to grasp the concept of six-million Holocaust victims, the students decide to collect 6,000,000 paper clips to better understand the extent of this crime against humanity. The film details how the students met Holocaust survivors from around the world and how the experience transformed them and their community.

This screening is in conjunction with "Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933-1945," a traveling exhibition organized by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, on display at the Handwerker Gallery until February 26. This event is co-sponsored by the Handwerker Gallery, Hillel, and the LGBT Center. For more information contact Michael Faber, Jewish Chaplain and Director of Hillel, 274-3323.

On Wednesday, February 8, "Paragraph 175," will be shown in the Handwerker Gallery at 6:30 p.m. "Paragraph 175" is a documentary in which historian Klaus Muller interviews survivors of the Nazi persecution of homosexuals because of the German Penal Code of 1871, Paragraph 175.

Faculty saxophonist Steven Mauk will present a free recital at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall at Ithaca College. He will be joined by colleagues Diane Birr, piano; Kim Dunnick, trumpet; and Patrice Pastore, soprano. They will perform music of Debussy, Depelsenaire, Hoiby, Satterwhite, and Wilson.

Soprano Deborah Lifton will give her first recital as a member of the Ithaca College School of Music faculty at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. She will be joined by pianist Charis Dimaras for arias by Bellini and Rossini, along with songs by Grieg, Ginastera, Larsen, and Rachmaninoff.

Two scholarship opportunities

The Margaret Reid Memorial Scholarship requires you to possess a cumulative grade point average (GPA) between a 2.75 and 3.599 as of March 5, 2006, demonstrate leadership qualities, and show a wide range of active participation in campus organizations.

The Ithaca College Student Government Scholarship requires you to possess a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 3.600 as of March 5, 2006, and have participated in a broad range of experiences on campus.
