Music and Human Rights

Samite, the East African flutist and singer whom Pete Seeger called "a superb musician," will present "Is There a Role for Music in Areas of Conflict?" at Ithaca College on Tuesday, April 6.

The performance and discussion will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Clark Lounge, Egbert Hall. Sponsored by the Department of Health Policy Studies, the event is free and open to the public.

The Ariadne String Quartet, Ithaca College's string quartet in residence, will give a free concert on Sunday, April 4. The performance will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center.

The ensemble will collaborate with three guest artists. Dancer Jeanne Goddard will perform original choreography to Igor Stravinsky's Three Pieces for String Quartet. Pianist Charis Dimaras and tenor David Parks will join the Ariadne Quartet in performances of Ralph Vaughan Williams's On Wenlock Edge and Beethoven's String Quartet op. 59, no. 3.
