Paula Twomey, adjunct Spanish instructor in the DMLL, has published three new cultural readers for Level I and II secondary students with Teacher’s Discovery: Lecturas culturales de España, Lecturas culturales de México, and Lecturas culturales de Argentina. Each reader includes short stories, poems, legends, dramas, historical accounts, recipes, cultural traditions, sports and festivals that are authentic to each country. Each reading selection is supplemented by four activities that help students review the vocabulary and practice target language skills. In addition, students use the readings to research topics on the web, write personal reflections, answer comprehension questions, compare and contrast themes, and participate in communicative activities. All activities support the ACTFL Standards for World Language Learning in the 21st Century and the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Standards.

On Friday, April 13, the Office of Admissions will be hosting the "An Inside Look" event for prospective students.  Approximately 50 spaces within O-Lot (the lot adjacent to the Park School of Communications) will be closed and reserved for use by attendees of this event.

Members of the campus community who usually park in this lot should be aware that they may need to park elsewhere on Friday, including considering an earlier arrival time to campus to identify other available parking locations.  A  parking map is available at www.ithaca.edu/map/#parking to view all campus parking lot locations.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to accommodate our visitors, and look forward to sharing with our potential students and families all that IC and its community members have to offer!

RLST-27504-01 (23557) Selected Topics in Religion: Race and Religion
MWF at 11:00am - 11:50am

Course Instructor: Shobhana Xavier

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will explore the intersection of race and religion, alongside gender, sexuality, culture, and more. It will challenge students to think about how racial identities, theories, and movements implicated the way religious communities thought about the divine and their relationship to it. In doing so, we will explore historical and contemporary movements in the context of North America, but also globally. Some examples of case studies this course will engage with include African-American Islam (i.e., Nation of Islam), Rastafarianism, indigenous spiritualities, and American Buddhism and Hinduism.

Gwyn Whieldon, of the National Security Agency, will be giving our final Tensor Lecture Series presentation on Monday, April 16, 4-5PM in Williams 320.
